I have a Hymer Exsis i504 fitted with a Pioneer SPH 230DAB head unit. However the reversing camera does not come on when reverse is engaged but does when side lights are on. Actually I would prefer it to be on permanently so I can see what I am towing. Is it just a matter of an 12v feed to the reverse trigger wire on the head unit ? Anyone ideas please?

Depending upon how the camera has been wired will determine the fix.
As it works with the sidelights, that points to the camera supply being most likely taken from the rear light cluster. Can you trace any wires from the camera to the rear lights? If so you should be able to move this over to a permanent ignition live from possibly the towbar wiring connector if fitted.
The head unit would usually have a sidelight input for the dimming of the display and hopefully uses a vga sensing input to know the camera has an output so hopefully not need any wiring changes at the dashboard.

If it has always done it it would point to not being wired correctly from day one. Normally the camera is liked to the reverse light wiring and a second feed to the side lights to dim the display when sidelights are on so not to effect night vision.

Drive with the sidelights on - sorted. We did that when we put a "wireless" camera on our Hymer Compact, as it was so much easier to wire to the number plate light than anywhere else, due to the huge lifting door and our wish to fit the camera above the number plate.
