If we return from Spain/France in our self sufficient motorhome and they have gone onto the red list. Is there a campsite facility for our 10 day quarantine or will we still have to go into an hotel.

Have been trying to ask this question to what should be relevant agencies but not getting very far.
Hope someone knows the answer or can point me in the right direction.
Thank you.

Red list travel ban countries

If you have been in or through any of the countries listed below in the previous 10 days, you will be refused entry to the UK.

If you are a British or Irish National, or you have residence rights in the UK, you will be able to enter. You must quarantine in a government approved hotel for 10 days.

Sorry, red list is compulsory hotel quarantine at a hotel of their choice but at your expense. Amber is compulsory quarantine but can be undertaken at home, so then you might get away with a motorhome, but I think the system will require an address with a postcode

Ireland have alreadydeclared that from Thursday France will be added to their Red list. I would very much expect UK to shortly follow suit. Sorry.

You live in Wales? Here is the info for Wales. Basically if arriving from, or having passed through a Red List country you are currently not permitted to enter Wales until you have quarantined in England (or Scotland) - there are currently no hotel quaantine facilities in Wales but there are likely to be in due course. You must have negative results for the mandatory tests before leaving the quarantine hotel.

This was our concern recently when returning from Italy via France and the Eurotunnel. In theory, if France goes on the Red List you have to quarantine in a hotel. However, if you come back in a motorhome via Eurotunnel how are they actually going to manage this? The quarantine hotels all seem to revolve around you arriving on a plane. Are you going to be police-escorted to an airport hotel if you arrive in a motorhome? Can you just park up in a hotel car park and refuse to enter the hotel itself? If you’ve been self-contained in a motorhome for some time, and have tested negative twice already in Spain and France, IMO you are highly unlikely to be bringing the virus in with you. You would be far more likely to contract it if you are forced to stay in a quarantine hotel.

I'm sure i read somewhere (can't find it now) that you would have to leave vehicle and fly back to the UK

How ludicrous is that? This is not a dig at you but at the concept.

We have no idea of when (if?) we would be allowed back to France, Spain, wherever to collect said van. What about the boring old issues of MOT, Road Tax/SORN, insurance, etc? What if you’re a fulltimer?

If/when they they put France on the UK Red List I expect they will have quarantine hotel arrangements in place for ferry arrivals. However ludicrous it may seem, collecting your vehicle from abroad will be of no concern to the authorities..

We are moving back to the UK so coming back with removals motorhomes dogs etc not sure how this hotel situation would work, abandoning 300k worth of vehicles aint going to work for us before I get a judgmental comment we have been selling before covid raised its head and timing is not a choice thing

I think as things look it's pretty likely government quarantine is going to be required it's probably going to be difficult for anyone with a dog as well presumably they will have to go into kennels unless someone else will look after them. It will be a pity not to use some of the lorry parks that were prepared for operation stack or book out some larger sites.

I agree, using secure parking compounds for motorhomes would be a great alternative to expensive hotels to isolate in, but I cannot imagine it happening - the authorities have more than enough on their plate to create exceptions for a few thousand people. Shame.

Do you have to leave France on a specific date then? Or can you stay somewhere in France while Covid is fought?

There is an interesting Court Case being heard in Dublin tomorrow where an Israeli Health worker who has been double jabbed for some period is being forced, against her will, to comply with the mandatory demand to stay in a hotel even though she has provided 2 negative tests. She is moving to Ireland to be with the hubby

I appreciate it is Ireland, but the result may be an indicator that a justification may be required for this mandatory order.

We have sold our house here and renting it back until end of June when the new owner moves in, we have a 16 year old daughter to go to college, we have no house in UK as yet trying to get a rental as purchasing remotely has been imposible, all our belongings will be going over to the rental, I do not see easy solutions 3 adults two good sized dogs indefinately stoppingI dont know where. As I say we have had the house for sale prior to covid, things took longer than expected and there are a number of things you cannot simply change. sorry to add both myself and wife have had first Pfeizer with second early May. Also when you say whilst Covid is fought how many days is that and what are the lottery numbers please?

So what has happened to Boris Johnson’s much vaunted ‘British common sense’? Ridiculous broad brush rules with no allowances for mitigating circumstances.

Have you considered going to (at present your best bet is) Germany on 7th May in order to travel to UK (hopefully) on 17th May with them (hopefully) being an amber country (confirmation hopefully on 10th May) which would then require 10 days Q at your address ?

If i knew the answer to your second point I wouldnt tell you

Best of luck

End of June is some 11 or 12 weeks away which is a long time so far as the pandemic is concerned, there really is no guessing what the situation will be by then. Try to chill out and make the most of your circumstances and nearer the time it will all become clearer ...well maybe not the lottery numbers but you should have more idea about what regulations you are going to have to comply with !

I agree, not panicking just trying to think of options, despite the bad start France is definately improving the vaccine rate this may have an impact.

Mainly I was asking in case I could be of any help. I have quite a big garden and living on a stadium it gives you room around to walk the dogs. Of course, I have no idea of how long it would take but for your daughter surely she won't start in the UK right now ? Yes?
At least I can help her with French, as basically I am a teacher.
There are probably number of things I don't think of as not in your shoes and situation... but if help is needed..I am not too far from you.

I suspected I could read betwwen the lines and suspected you were potentially a good samaritan :) We had thought we could have a holiday for a period if needed and get my family to receive our belongings at the other end, that may be a option, this is not a financial thing I just hate to think of being forced to put dogs in kennels (not sure my older one would survive that) or such and security of our vehicles my daughters education is one of our primary concerns/interests so we are tied to dates around that. I am a natural planner and worrier so leaving things to chance really goes against the grain :(

royw
I fully understand your point of view.
As for a good samaritan.... I don't know what this word implies... For me helping is just my usual way of acting, and it is always free.
So you think, you see what goes on, if possible you keep your plans as they are, but if my suggestion can be an alternative at some point just give a shout on here... I usually come everyday. And if not, quite a few funsters have my mobile number, just ask!

Amicalement

Frankie

I cant see France being "Red" at the end of June.
2 1/2 months away including a lockdown period and I ve just done their figures and they dropped 26% over where they were last week. (even though their 14 day rate is still rising)
Another 2/3/4 days and their 14 rate will begin to descend, as their rate last week is higher than this weeks. A month or so of lockdown should see them good, coupled with the, hopefully good weather.

Put it this way, I have no current plans other than to go to the Vercors on 20th June, but have Germany/Hungary up my sleeve to go to for 10 days before I return if necessary in order to make travel less complicated.

You may want to monitor this (or not) and France's figures for today (which I ll put up when Germany have done theirs later tonight)

Broken Link Removed

The below might make sense if you view the above thread ! But in short a daily decrease of 26% over the past week's figures but a 3.6% increase in the past fortnight and 5% lower figures this week to last week. In short the lockdown is already starting to show in the figures.

No, I get that. What I was referring to is the possibility of France just blithely being added to the Red List without any consideration of individual circumstances. As far as I can tell, all of the countries on the current Red List are far enough away that they are only going to be exited by air - or by a long sea journey taking many days so that you’d be out of them for the required 10 days bobbing about in a boat. It’s a bit different to thinking that France can just be added to the Red List under the current hotel quarantine regime. There will be people returning via France in cars and motorhomes via the Eurotunnel (some with dogs). They are in their own vehicles, not packed into some aeroplane. If they have a home or campsite to go to in the UK they should be allowed to quarantine there, not in some over-priced hotel.

Also, getting back to the OP - why can’t/won’t the relevant authorities answer her questions? This is pretty basic stuff that should have been considered already.

I understand Portugal have just been removed from the Red List, however, prior to this so many simply entered into Spain and travelled via France to enter the UK stating they had been in Spain.

They will do no more than refer you to the Government website, which I aporeciate doesn’t advise specifically on this matter but they are never in the habit of answering hypothetical questions
