I am replacing the old switch for Thule step and am having a slight problem getting it to work!

I have attached pictures of original switch and wiring and new switch.

What seems to happen is that if I move the double cable (black and brown) between the two terminals that are left it will either open or close the steps.

This suggest that I should split these two onto the 2 connectors, does that make sense?

(Ignore the copper cable in 3rd pic, that is for a light switch in same cluster)

Thanks for any help.

I don't know if it helps, but I'm currently trying to fix my Techno step, and found this whilst searching ...

Does your existing step normally auto-retract when the engine starts, or is it purely manual operation (with an alarm perhaps)? I think different switches are required.

You need to know which is the live in and the output terminals for in and out. Better still fit the same switch as you took out. Otherwise you are left with mapping out the pin layout to match

That may not work, chances are the black and brown wires need to be linked to each other, but if they you wire them on separate terminals they wouldn't be linked, as you have discovered. I think if you linked the two terminals, and connected both wires to them, it would work.

Maybe make a Y-type short adapter that links a wire from both terminals into one spade terminal, that plugs into the black/brown wires.

I think these switches are double changeover (not the more common double pole changeover). On the original switch two of the terminals are internally commoned together, but on this switch they are separate, and you have to common them with a wire link.

If it works the opposite way round to what you want, swap the orange and purple wires round. I presume the other wire (white?) is the +12V supply.
