Hello
I am planning to change my dual 95 amp AGM batteries for one of these a Fogstar Drift 230Ah under seat battery

At present I have a Schauld Electro block 99 with a Gell setting
I have 240 Watt of Solar with a Voltronic mppt Regulator with a lithium setting.
I have no b to b at present but intend to fit either a schauld or voltronic B to B

my alternator is rated at 150Amp so i believe if I have a b to b that will give about 50Amp

My question is if this will work as we rarely go on hook up the electro block will undercharge but that is better than overcharging

Looks good.
Speak to Fogstar directly as they are very helpful.
I will do that thanks. Just need some reassurance things will work. Not sure how big a b to b I could fit as the Schald one is adjustable. Don't want to blow the alternator to bits.
Thanks
Trevor

I did exactly what you are going to do 1 year ago and it works great for our moderate usage, kettles hair dryer, things up to 1kw. I wouldn’t worry about fitting a B2B before trying it out. We certainly didn’t need one and the battery remains in good charge without one.
Just spent 5 cloudy days at Newark and the lowest AH was 170.

I've got a 280Ah Fogstar. Only 175w solar and 30A B2B that's also powers the 3 way fridge when driving. Generally we move every couple of days. Normally stay off grid. I'm a pretty low power user, but even through the darker and wetter months, the battery is still half charged by the time we get to a hookup every 7-10 days.

Lithium don't require a long absorption phase so maybe set the EBL to lead acid rather then gel, on the lead acid setting it will charge the battery at maximum amps until it reaches 14.3 volts, it will remain at 14.3 volts for one hour and then drop to 13.8 volts float, on the gel setting it will charge at maximum amps until it reaches 14.3 volts and stay at that voltage for 8 hours before dropping to 13.8 volts float. I have now got a 230ah Fogstar drift but all charging sources except solar are bypassing the EBL and i'm not using the charger in the EBL.

I have had a Fogstar 230Ah for 6 months.
My alternator is 150 amps and Vanbitz recommended and fitted a 60amp Sterling B2B, it works fine.
My onboard charger is a Sargent PX300 which is a 3 stage lead acid only charger.
As we only hook up a couple of nights a year and the Sargent won't damage the Fogstar just only charge it to about 85% SOC, which on hook up is fine, I've left it.
I spoke to Fogstar about the charger who confirmed it would be OK.

I wouldn't use the EBL for charging on a regular basis the absorption phase is far too long, early ones it was 8 hours they are now 16 hours.

If your Votronic Solar regulator is the 430 best to change that for a Victron there have been quite a few problems with the 430 with Lithium.

I wouldn't use a Schaudt B2B the Lithium setting charges at a constant 14.2v & doesn't shut off when the battery is charged. My new van came with one I've bought a Victron Orion XS to replace it.
The XS can be set in 1 amp steps from 1 to 50 amps.

If you get your Fogstar from RogerIvy at OffGrid you will get the same 10% Fun discount and they can give you good advice on installing it.
