Renogy low power shutdown

I guess a simple answer would to be plugging in something as well that would take the demand above .5 of an amp?
 
I'm thinking of buying the Renogy 2 kW inverter. How do users cope with charging laptops, etc, if it shuts down with loads less than 50 Watts?

Isn't that 50W limit for the battery saving mode? So it would periodically check if any loads >50W on and turn on inverting if it detects any and then turn inverting off again when load drop below 50W. This would then save power compared to the idle consumption with inverter on all the time.

So the solution to run low power loads would be to turn the inverter on normally, instead of using the power save mode with automatic load detection.

Running <50W loads on inverter is pretty inefficient though, so I'd consider a 12V charger for laptops and phones instead. Or run the laptop on battery and connect charger only when needed so it would charge at the 70W or so what the typical charger is. But then you might just turn the inverter on and forget the battery saving mode altogether.

Can’t answer for Renogy but my Victron inverter only shuts down when in Eco mode and is adjustable down to 10W or 15W. I never use Eco mode because I don’t want it to shut down automatically for lack of load when I am using my CPAP. Perhaps you should make sure the inverter you are thinking of buying is the one best suited to your proposed use.

If you have any loads of 50W or less, you could get a small 150W inverter, especially if the load would be on for long periods. You could leave the 150W inverter on all the time, and only turn the 2000W inverter on when it's needed.

Many items like laptops and phones are best charged from the 12V battery, from a laptop car charger in a 12V socket, or maybe a good USB outlet, or adapter plugged into a 12V socket. It's rare, but possible, that only a 230V AC charger is available.
