Looking to remove the rear view mirror from our 22 plate Ducato based Burstner. Basically, we have no rear window so mirror is redundant and wanting to put a dash cam in its place. As the mirror is stuck on I presume a small gauge fishing line can be used to ease the sticky pad from the windscreen. Just wondering if anyone else had tried this and any useful do's and dont's ?

I would like a rear view mirror for my X290 Ducato PVC.

Thanks. Thinking more about removing the stick pad that will be left behind.
I used the wedge shaped nub that was left as the mounting point for the arm that went to the reversing camera screen. I designed and 3d printed it. The arm needs to be pretty long to reach through the hole in the blind.

Maybe you could cut down the mirror arm and mount the screen connector to it?

I left the stuck on bolt head there as it felt like I was going to crack the screen pulling it off. It’s hidden behind our camera screen now.

It would be clipped onto a thin bracket I believe as bonding directly without a joint makes them dangerous in an accident.
Usually pushing up and towards the glass will remove it but they are so tight you may worry about breaking the glass.
Easiest way would be to drop by a windscreen replacement depot with a drink for the fitter to do it for you.

I’d check first as if you remove the rear view mirror as useless as it is and have one of your wing mirrors damaged your motorhome is not legal to drive as you must have 2 mirrors.
I didn’t have a rear view mirror on my motorhome and when one of my wing mirrors was knocked off it had to go off to the repairers on the back of a low loader.

Blimey! I mean I know there are some poorly worded laws but to be done for removing a mirror that can't reflect the road behind seems ridiculous.

Hmm. No 3D printer and don't fancy using a saw. You've never seen my tool work have you? I'm amazed that I still have 10 fingers!

We removed ours years ago. The MH has always passed its MOT without the rear view mirror (though tbh I don't know if the check?). We left the mount on the windscreen as it's on a black section, so not visually intrusive, and we keep the mirror in a cupboard so we could refit if anyone queries it.

Even if one is fitted, I never use the interior one, as I've always driven heavy vehicles, so the first thing I do is remove it and store it somewhere 'safe'?

To me, the (next to useless) mirror restricts my view through the windscreen and I hate it!

There i absolutely no point in having a interior mirror if you haven’t got a back window I have driven our MH when a lorry took the o/s mirror off as it wasn’t far from home would have been easier if it had been the n/s.

The Ducato (2023) one just twists off and leaves the almost flush mounting plate on the screen, my 2013 model did the same...the mounting plate is bonded and I will not disturb that..

If I need a rear view mirror I just turn on the reversing camera full time.....

As per post #15 by Roby2008 above, the mirror arm will twist off from the mounting boss that is bonded to the windscreen - it’s secured by a spring steel clip, rotate and unclip, see photo on my link below. DO NOT TRY AND REMOVE THE BOSS FROM THE SCREEN It’s 99.9% a certainty that you will crack it.

I removed the redundant interior mirror arm from our 22 Adria Compact and utilised the boss for installing the powered mount for a NextBase dashcam. Details here:

My transit didn't even come with a rear view mirror. It wouldn't even occur to me to not drive it even without both mirrors. The rear cameras can all be used if needed.

You have to have two means of rearward vision.

Includes cars :giggle:
I remember when wing mirrors were a factory option, along with radio and reversing lights, a friend discovered when he got a hillman avenger company car, they hadn't paid for the reversing lights option, that all he had to do was plug the loose cable into the already fitted sensor on the gearbox, and put bulbs in the light fittings.
