Our Gaslow bottles were second hand when I bought them from a funster nearly 10 years ago

The dates are not visible if they even have them, I would need to remove from cabinet to check which might mean disconnecting

So easy option is a trip to Autogas to swap them, there doesn’t appear to be an option for retesting so is scrapping the old bottle really the only option 🤔 seems a waste

Also just how dangerous can a bottle become overnight

What have you lot done when your bottles have reached expiry dates, can’t find a thread by searching but it must have been covered I guess

Safety is my first concern, but it’s a £500 swap, that’s a good few nights away out of my retirement pennies

There is a 10 year warranty/guarentee on Gaslow bottles. No use by date. They should perform well beyond there warranty life.
Agreed, usually such bottles as gaslow never see the light of day and certainly don't get the abuse of ex change bottles.
I would keep changing the washers regularly though along with the hoses when they are due to be changed. (y)

I guess they deteriorate slowly and at 10 years they probably have a bit of a safety margin however there might be insurance implications if you had a fire once they are out of date. It is a shame that no one in this country has the facility to test and recertify them. The Code of Practise says that a cylinder must be within its certified date to be filled at a filling station. Prior to 2012 some cylinders were certified for 15 years, it might be worth checking the dates on your bottles.

Edit. The Gaslow warranty is 5 years the certification date is a different matter.

Our Alugas bottles are now 10 years old so we will go via the German factory on one of our next two trips and get them refurbished or exchanged.

You might find them cheaper elsewhere as we checked the prices for new ones and the ones from Gaslow were a fair bit dearer.

Where’s that then dad??😁

It is possible for old refillable gas bottles to corrode internally due to the traces of water that will get into them over time. So a time limit on their use makes sense to me.

Unfortunately Alugas don’t offer the refurbishment / testing service anymore.
They might sell you a new cylinder but I don’t know for sure .

If you've had them 10 years David, chances are that will have had a 15yr 'life'

I checked ours in situ with a mechanics mirror....

In anticipation that ours was out of date, I bought a replacement (£189 delivered ) from Gas Products .....

When I checked the old one I discovered I had another 2 years left on it. So I now use them both instead of a gaslow/ Calor combination.

Gaslow have a bottle replacement scheme which basically gives 10% off new bottles.
