Recurring Beep and Heater Failure in 9 yr old VW T6

First time visitor on here. 9 yr old VW T6 Was parked up at airport for couple of weeks in October when country had bad storms. Returned to camper van and noticed a repetitive beep noise from the media player. Someone suggest I clean the reversing sensors which seemed to do the trick. Since then diesel heater has stopped working...dead, control pad doesn't light up. Beep issue has returned. I plugged into mains noticed water coming out my external elec socket when I took the cap off. Diesel heater made a bit of a nose then died. A fuse light was showing red, changed it but made no difference. Where to start....are the probs likely to be commented ?....water ingress, knackered leisure battery, replacement diesel heater ? If replacing battery or heater any recommendations for decent dependable ones ? Cheers

Best to get hold of a multimeter and check your batteries initially and then the fuses and then the heater connections to make sure there are no shorts .duff fuses etc.
Dry out water in your electric connections , preferably whilst your not connected on ehu.

Sorry but only advice I can offer is about a new leisure battery.
Buy a decent brand, not cheap with thick lead plates.
It will weigh more and cost twice as much but will perform better and last longer.
Don’t forget to check the dimensions to make sure it’ll fit in the available space.
I’ve used Bristol Batteries a few times, very knowlegable along with a company in Tewkesbury whose name escape me.
Call them up and seek advice

Your very welcome here on Fun but sadly my knowledge of good facilities in the North of Scotland is sadly lacking. However the weather where you are has been fairly extreme lately and could well have contributed to any electrical problems.

Your mains inlet connector should not have water in it, obviously. It is designed to be 'weatherproof', ie 'proof against water splashes from all directions'. Is the cover damaged at all? The technical specification is 'IP44' which will be written on the socket somewhere. That is normally good for protection against the weather, but I suppose the recent weather (107mph winds) might have taken it to the next IP level - 'proof against hoses and pressure jets from all directions' which it is not designed to be protected against.

The other possibility is that water might be getting inside elsewhere and running down the wall onto the connection on the inside. Does that look likely? Or even (it happened to me) water running from a detached water tap pipe onto the mains inlet. Water pipes get frozen and do strange things, like pushing the connections apart.

Either way, you need to dry out the inlet connector and check if it's working properly. If you plug it into a hookup post, then there should be an RCD in the supply that trips if the socket is still wet and there is earth leakage.

Regarding your other issues on the 12V side of things, in general with a 9 year old vehicle it's worth checking for bad connections as they get old and corroded. Especially the chassis earth (ie negative return) side, which can get neglected. If you have several problems and they interact with each other (like reversing sensors and media player) then chassis earth connections are strong suspects.
