I guess most of us send vehicle docs by recorded delivery?

I have just sent my V5 off for a change of ownership and was surprised that the Recorded Delivery service does not cover documents sent by post.
For documents you need to use Special Delivery with an item value of £25 to cover replacement costs, kerching, £8.75 please!

Recorded delivery is a waste of money with DVLA.
Sacks of mail will hit the post room every day and each SACK will be signed for, not individual items.
I've just sent my V5 and V70 to DVLA to uprate the weight and change to PHGV, and used simple 1st Class post. If it gets lost, I'll just apply for a replacement (and certificate from SV Tech)

Same with other government bodies. I did it with HMRC, and after going back to post office, as it "hadn't been delivered ", they encouraged me to make a claim.
