We’re heading off to France next Thursday down the west-ish side and wondered if anyone had any recommendations?
Pre-season makes availability a bit harder.
Any suggestions appreciated.

Aires being 'open' or aires having access to services are two different things. i would suggest filling up with water and emptying your waste etc whenever you can. Aires that charge are more likely to have services available throughout the year.

Hopefully someone with recent knowledge will be able to assist in pin pointing actual locations, but im sure you wont have many problems when travelling, enjoy your trip, we are going over on the 16th for 6 weeks !

Thanks MisterB
Our first stop was going to be Honfleur but the only campsite there is closed till April.

if youre going down past Nantes, i am pretty sure you could use the Campsite at Challans, Camping Le Ragis. we have a static there and though not 'officially' open, will prob let you top up/empty and stop overnight (or longer) if you really get stuck? i can contact them for you if you cant find anywhere. we will be calling there for a week or so from the 16th before we travel further afield.

as you are touring down the west coast, it might be worth checking out the posts relating to the Wine Festival at Blaye, early April?

What's wrong with the Aire we were there in November.

I don't think you will find any campsites open but most aires will be but generally the water will be off in the municipal ones. I suspect the camping Car Park ones stand more chance of being on. There are more appearig that you need a male connector for , like these:

havent been for two years but went in januray/february just before the first lock down. honfleur was ok - not pretty site but nice town, arromanche was lovely - great views but town was very quiet, bayeux worth a try - small aire but no issues, mount st michele (?) was very tidy - long walk to the island (which is over rated IMO). montreuil was very nice town and safe

A few years ago facing the same dilemma we were very pleased to find municipal campsite open ( and very pleasant) just north of Ouistreham
And also near racecourse in Caen

Mortagne sur Gironde and Meshers are two of our favourites on the west coast. Not cheap by aire standards at €11 but have services & electric are by marinas and have free internet (although not always working in Meschers). Mortagne is pretty and has a nice restaurant nearby or the village up the hill for the more energetic than me. Meschers is just across the harbour from lots of lovely restaurant and a shortish flat stroll in to the village or to the coastline.

Bouchemaine near Angers is also lovely €15 all in last time we were there, on the Seine with lovely sunsets and a short stroll to 3 really good restaurants and a shop. You can cycle along the river as well.

I would highly recommend the aire at Verteuil-sur-Charente just off the n10 going down the west coast. Beautiful little town with Chateau. Aire is close to river with toilet 100yds away. On arrival you can phone the town hall to have 16 amp electric connected . Other than the electric its free. Never full and we always arrive before 12 noon and pop to the town hall to tell them to connect electric. Some nice bars and restaurants. Very peaceful.

By the way - not the area you’re looking for but we are travelling south at the moment we’ve stayed at Broglie and Chateau Larcher and both have all services working including water.
