Hi all,

I have a little job which has come up in Manchester City centre and thought I'd make a weekend away, doing the job on the Monday before travelling back. Does anyone have recommendations of a reasonable site close enough to the centre to enable me to get a train or taxi (or cycle if possible)?

Many thanks.

Burrs is a short walk/cycle ride (2 miles ish) into Bury Interchange from where you can get the Metrolink into the city centre. If you don’t fancy the walk back there’ll be plenty of taxis is Bury. You can’t take your bike on Metrolink.

If you fancy somewhere more rural, and cheaper, try Hollingworth Lake Caravan Park from where you can cycle a couple of miles to Smithy Bridge train station to get the train into the city centre, which takes about 20 minutes. The Metrolink will be more frequent however.

Todmorden cricket club site, 5 min walk to Railway station, straight into Victoria station 40mins.

Just stayed at New Mills Marina. Nice rural site and 1mins from the station that goes straight into Manchester with a 30mins direct train ride. Super nice C&CC site and a chippy 200yrds away.

Whitecroft Farm CL (CAMC). 0.1mile from Strines train stop on line from New Mills Central into Man Piccadilly.

New Mills Marina (CAMC CL) a few minutes walk from New Mills Newtown Station. Line also into Man Piccadilly.
Fairly frequent trains on both lines.

We usually stay at The Burrs when we visit our son / grandsons in Stockport but it does get booked up fast - booking in advance is almost essential.

Avoid the site in Poynton (Elm Beds?) unless you are prepared to go down a narrow built up lane with an unmade surface. The site itself wasn't great last time we visited (admittedly 6 years ago but recent reviews suggest nothing has changed) but it is handy for the cycle route (Middlewood Way) Marple to Macclesfield and beyond plus there are train stations not far away.

That would be my choice.

Our drive is full at the moment, otherwise you could have stayed here.

Thanks all for the replies. Lots to look at and seems there are viable solutions.

Appreciate your advice.

New mills marina or Strines would get my vote as they are both close to stations.
New mills has two stations on different lines, new mills and new mills new town.
White house farm at Strines has two areas one is very boggy in wet weather. Strines station has no lighting so if you come back late take a torch. Apart from the station there's nothing else there, no shops or pub.
Been to both in the RV several times.

Poynton is as said up a narrow lane but we found it easy enough, bit of walk to the station and coming back it's all up hill. Lady up the narrow lane sells home made jams and marmalade, tasty.
Only been in the Autocruise.
