Since 2019.
I’ve a 2004 Hymer with a 2.8 L Fiat manual transmission and I’m looking to fit it with cruise control. Can any recommend a suitable system and also an installer? Thanks in advance.

To be honest, the amount of use my cruise control gets in the UK, I'd not bother unless it was free.

If you do a lot of miles in the EU, then it might be worth looking at, but if the quote was into three figures I'd say the cost does not justify the usage.

The only place you can make use of cruise control is long traffic free/roundabout free roads. They simply do not exist in the UK.

A speed limiter however does get a lot of use, and is worth it, whatever the cost, as a couple of cameras catching you at 35mph can stop you driving.

My previous van had both cruise control and speed limiter and I did use them both frequently. I like having cruise control and do plan to use the van mainly in Europe so I think it would be a worthwhile investment for me.
Did you manage to get a cruise control kit, I fitted one last year that I believe would also suit your vehicle, I can dig out the info if you think it would be useful ?

No I haven’t. I’d originally planned to get one fitted “professionally” at a cost of around £450 at a place in Telford but couldn’t agree a time with the guy. The I found some information on the Fiat Forum that suggested I could buy a part and fit it myself with a bit of jiggery pokery. But that’s as far as I got. I’d be very interested to hear about your experience as that might be just the nudge I need to get it done. Thanks

So, I’m in Australia, and we do not have the problem of short runs and roundabouts getting in the road of long trips! I have a 2001 Ford Transit 90 TD30 diesel auto change Motorhome. Does anyone have a recommendation for a cruise control? Thanks in advance! Sean.

I hope Figaro will post details of his one for you to see whether it would be suitable

I fitted a retro fit cruise control kit from NCS Systems to our 2013 Peugeot Boxer.
It's an easy kit to fit in a couple of hours and has more options than the factory fitted ones.

It was from a guy on ebay called Peter Bevan, but I've just done a search and he's not advertising them any more, nothing else came up either for pre 2006 ducatos, except from an Italian seller.
Shame because it was a good product and Peter was very helpful. Fitting was straight forward but it did involve cutting wires and rejoining, then replacing the brake pedal switch.
It's worked faultlessly since fitting.

Thanks for the information. I found Peter Bevan and am now the proud owner of a cruise control system. Just need to install it now (when the weather’s warmer).

The same guy in Telford fitted one for me on a previous van. Worked fine and did the job. Never used one before but now use it all the time . Great.

This may be useful for any others interested in retro fit cruise control.

I had cruise control home-fitted by Alex, he lives in Peterborough, very good and it worked faultlessly.

Shortly afterwards I had an electrical problem while at a Peterborough Motorhome Show. At last resort I gave Alex a ring.

On his weekend he came to the show and solved the problem ( nothing to do with his cruise control fitting) ..no charge.

Later he contacted me saying there was an upgrade stalk for my cruise control and he would come and fit it free.

I thanked him and said no thanks ..if it ain't broke don't fix it.

Here is his contact number ..I don't know if he is still working or using that number ..Alex/ +44 7769 046944

He may well travel if you need to arrange it.

Highly recommended

We had cruise control fitted to our first van at the Peterborough show.
I really miss having it on my car, but can't justify the cost as I only do about 4500 miles a year, would be great for all the roadworks round here.
Don't think it is so easy to self fit to a semiautomatic.

Good news (y)
The trickyest part is the brake pedal switch and you need to be a bit of a contorsionist on an A Class
Let us know how you get on
The instructions talk about soldering for best results but I intend simply to use the supplied Wago connectors. Unless anyone on here thinks otherwise.

I installed the cruise control this week. Quite strait forward; yes Figaro, the brake pedal switch was the hardest part. Cutting the notch in the steering wheel shroud was also stressful but worked out ok. The ECU recognised the cruise control after a few minutes of switching on and off. I’ve yet to try it out on the road though.

For my previous Sprinter-based mh, I bought a cruise control from canm8.com (I think it was £199) and they were able to give me contact details for a mobile fitter near me who came and installed it (I think that was £99).

It was very neat, did both cruise control and speed limiter AND had the additional feature not found on most manufacturer-fit systems of two preset “memories”. You could set to the current speed, as usual, or just invoke one of the memorised speeds. I had my memories preset to 30 and 60 as the most common speeds for me (I tow a trailer).

It worked beautifully.

Tried it out today and it works! Turns off immediately I press on the brake pedal. Made a big difference to a 3 hr journey down the M1, M62 and M6. Very pleased.
