I've read that an aluminuim board is required in Italy (and Spain?), the chevron type.

I've also read that the non ally ones are ok in Italy if they have a round reflector in each corner.

Does anyone have a definitive answer please, not what you can get away with, but what complies with Italian law..

Fankyoo.

There have been changes, but effectively still required

If you buy one on the UK, they are usually made of plastic and are double sided, 3 red bands for Spain and 5 red bands for Italy.

Frankly I think it would be a really pedantic officer who pulled you for display a board made from the 'wrong' materiel, or with the wrong number of red bands for the country.

And if they are that sort of officer, they are after a folded €50 note to be handed over with the Driving Licence.
Which means if they can't get you on the wrong materiel for the board, they will get you for the 'broken' rear light or the 'flat' tyre or the 'speeding' ticket.

Basically they would simply be after a donation to the Local Policeman's Retirement Fund (cash only).
Seen it, been there, got the lighter wallet.
It's a very regular occurrence in certain places, and you need to be ready for it.
