Had my van to the garage to sort out the dreadful squealing from the rear springs. Its 10 years old now. Its still in warranty but I have agreed with the dealer to get it done locally.

Looks on here and thought it would be the lower bushes in the springs, but the garage says it the top ones. 2 needed per side. The cost from Peugeot is £50 plus per bush. They only had 1 in stock so he is going to look for a more reasonable supplier.
Is this a common problem?
Also he is going to have to drop the waste tank which worries me more in case they are a bit rough.

I wonder whether it would be wise to change the spring bushes while they are on

I had a noise on my van at the rear. 09 reg, and about 5 year ago. Bought all new bushes for the rear springs. On removing the old was sure I had wasted my money and now time. But new bushes stopped the noise and hugely improved the ride. Can’t see the need to drop the tank though. Did mine myself on my 7.2meter van on the road by my house. Not a difficult job.

As Landy Andy says, fairly straightforward job to replace the bush. I think it's the low usage factor on a motorhome that makes it seem like a common problem.

It sounds like the Peugeot/Fiat spring bushes aren't up to the job if its a common problem ? Maybe worth buying some aftermarket ones instead ?

I believe there was a period when they developed a problem and the later ones are superior. Mine lasted 8-9 years, and the replacements have been in about 5. I doubt aftermarket would be any better.

Tell your garage to look on eBay plenty there .
Yes change at least top and bottom and subject to close inspection maybe front of rears as well, maybe worth looking into availability of poly bushes,if available a worthwhile upgrade

My previous 2007 had perished leaf spring bushes. It was pretty much the same price to replace the whole spring as it was to just change the bushes due to the labour involved. The leafs were pretty saggy anyway.

The waste tank on mine is at the rear behind the spare wheel, shaped with a semi circle to go round the wheel. Its very close to the inside top mounting bolts so he doesnt know if they are accessible.
Not sure how these are assembled with respect to which side is the nut. If the bolt has to come out towards the center of the van, then the tank will have to be dropped.

Could they leave the tank Insitu, grind off the head and refit new bolts the other way round?

Been told by Peugeot that the spring bushes are not a serviceable part for my van. They have the upper chassis bushes on back order
