Autocruise sportstar
Hey there, we've had our autocruise sportstar for nearly 10 years now and the wallpaper (I'm guessing that's what it is) is starting to peel in a few places and it's also just generally looking a bit shabby. I thought I would look into re-doing it but have absolutely no idea where to start! Is it special wallpaper? Where do I buy it from? I'm guessing I need to remove the old stuff - how?! Any advice much appreciated. Thanks. 🙂

Welcome!

If you can post a photo it would help but I suspect you are looking at a covering detaching from an internal panel. This covering would have been bonded on to the sheet during manufacture. It isn't meant to be replaced but hopefully someone might have done it and can comment. :)

If you check out “reds go travels” on youtube, she covered both door fronts and an area of wall. She says where she got it from and how to affix.

Here are some photos, I'm now thinking they may be panels as they have strips coming down (possibly over the join?), nearly all these strips are peeling off. Maybe I could try and stick these back down again. Also have a spot where the covering has peeled off completely (this bit isn't a strip) so need a solution to tidy this up.

im sure the surface is 'bonded' onto the panels, so cant be replaced/repaired easily. the jointing strips will just pull out and clip back in, so you can potentially repair them or replace them.

the problem is that the wall panels are often assembled as one big panel of exterior wall and internal wall, often after the internal layout has been fitted and then the internal furniture attached to the walls.

BUT everything is possible if you throw enough time and money on something ...... one solution might be to remove some wall covering (not the full panel/wall board) inside a wardrobe if possible and use that to patch the damaged areas up? though it might be a different shade due to sun bleaching etc.

if you decide to tackle it, post some photos of how you did it?

Thanks all, I will definitely share some photos if I attempt to do it. I like a good DIY project! 🙂

further to my post, you might just be able to obtain plain upvc jointing strips or even remove the covering from the existing jointing strips and spray them with a plastic paint to refresh them, then replace them without having a covering on? im sure you could get an undamaged section of the 'wallpaper' from inside a cupboard/wardrobe and try to make a 'repair' ...

We had a similar problem in a brand new static van going back about 30 years. They sent someone to repair a bit of damage. He put an iron onto a hidden section and it just unpeeled. He cut a section large enough to repair the damage, overlaid it, cut to size. Warmed the section of wall to remove the cut away bit, and replaced it. If you didn't know, you would never have seen it was patched. I don't know if still heat bonded, but worth a test in a hidden area.

Sorry, one further question - could I paint the walls? If I manage to patch the bit that's coming off, could I paint the walls to freshen them up?

I think you will find it will not stick. but might if you use something like a melamine primer first.
