Stuck at Parc Verger after van went into limp mode around Toulouse. Engine management light is constantly on. A friend tells me disconnecting the battery for a couple of mins often sorts this issue out, but for the life of me I can’t find it. Can’t see it under the bonnet and some of the vids on uTube mention looking in the footwell. Still don’t see it there.

Anyone point me in the right direction?

Also, as long as the alarm (Strikeback) isn’t set, I’m assuming it’s ok to disconnect without setting it off?

I have a French mechanic coming out in the morning but I have a feeling he’s intending to tow the vehicle to a garage, even though I’ve explained it’s driveable. I just hope he has a code reader with him!

Mercedes should be under the footwell lefthand side lift the carpet and look if there is a lid

dont think it will help:
is it the V6 3ltr engine?

Is there a removable panel between the passenger and drivers seat in the floor between front of seats and dash.pos where Mell said mine is a Fiat.lol

same with the fiat, left side of cab floor under 2 panels

Wait for the Mechanic
and drink wine with Ken and Steph @ park verger they are realy nice people

Thanks all, I’ve removed the carpet and pulled up some rubber matting and found a black plate with some screws. I'll take a look in there. Looks promising!

if it is automatic you can drive it in manuel it will override the limp mode not fully but its a lot better.
I managed to drive 650km in limp mode at 90kph on a bank holliday in France as all the garages where closed
also try turning the ignition off wait a few seconds and that may clear it for a while:

Thanks Mel, I did try the ignition switch off thing a few times but it wouldn’t work. Yes, it is the automatic and I did 300k last Friday using the gears. Was ok most of the time, but hills were a problem! Lots of angry faces behind me! Trying to explain what limp mode was to the breakdown team over here was painful. All they kept saying was we will tow you to a garage on Monday (even though the van is driveable but slow)!

We had the EGR valve changed in Spain at Mercedes
that solved the problem

hope all goes OK for you

Good luck tomorrow, the only thing that is good for you is the light is on all the time. that should at least mean Mercedes will be able to instantly diagnose the fault and then sort it, no doubt at great cost :(

brings back memories of my own struggle to get an intermittent engine management light issue resolved and fixed o_O

I had a similar effect turned out to be a sensor on the turbo side. MB main dealer had it sorted in no time

Check the turbo pipes are tight and they haven't got any leaks as they can make vans go into limp mode.
