The Augusta refused to start after parking up for lunch in a lay-by today. The electrics all lit up OK, but turning the key didn't trigger the solenoid. So I phoned the CACC RAC arrival service.
The Web report a problem service, failed, quite why having logged all the details and using GPS to id my location it just said "we have encountered problems loading your details " phone 03333xxxxxx33 .
So I did phone in. It was like talking to a dustbin lid. The mumbled echo of someone on the phone, after 90 seconds of taped message about being courteous to them, was indecipherable. Second call , another 90 seconds about curtesy, was equally bad, they then put the phone down.
The third time I was more lucky and spoke to somebody , who was obviously sharing the room with a number of other people all talking at the same time.
I logged my location and issue. They promised I'd get a text telling me when they estimated to arrive.
Having little faith in their services, I put on my overalls and got underneath the van. Tested earth lead to engine, tested link to starter motor. Battery is only 2 weeks old and I've just come off a 2 day charge.
Retried the starter and Bingo! All is well.
I then spent 3 more trys at cancelling the RAC each with 90 seconds lecture on not abusing their employees... before I finally cancelled the call-out.
I wonder why they need to spend so much of my time avoiding someone being curt with their employees?
Happily in Whitby for the steam train tomorrow.
