Rabies injections for dogs (1 Viewer)

My dog was given the 3 yr rabies injection 1 year ago for an intended trip using the AHC system. We have the opportunity to get a EU pet passport this year but the issuing vet insists on giving a new 3 yr rabies injection. Is this harmful, can it overdose and any risks to the dog

Short answer is it’s not a problem, in many countries the vaccination is every year.

Agreed, my daughter is a vet and she confirmed to me that multiple rabies jabs are not harmful. I was in same position.

Our pooch had 1 year left to go on his 3 year British record of rabies vaccines
We got a european passport begining of March this year
The vet in Belgium gave him another Rabies jab (3 year one) and it was n't a problem pooch utterly fine

And in the days when we were blood testing dogs and checking rabies antibody levels after 1 month, if the levels weren't high enough we'd give the dogs another rabies vaccine maybe 6 weeks after the first. Never any problems and that was what the vaccine manufacturer recommended.

We got a Eu dog passport, she needed a new rabies jab for it, the region we were in only recognises 1 year renewal of rabies jab.

No problem at all with another jab, in fact it could prove beneficial - if the dog has only ever had one it might be borderline for protection so having another would boost it. Our Bella had her first jab in October 2022 and another in January 2023 in order to get an EU PP.
