We r heading to Spain in Feb what is the quickest best route with a stop over for 2 nights in France via the Millau bridge

Put it in your apple/Google maps and you can see the alternative routes. Time, distance, with or without tolls etc.

There's a small Aire on the North side of the river with a view of the bridge from underneath, also very handy for the Millau white water course on the otherside of the bridge, if that's your thing ;) ::bigsmile:

You will need winter tyres by law and snow chains, there will be a strong possibility of heavy snow on the route, why not take the western route if your just bombing it to Spain…..🤔

Not correct, winter tyres or snow chains.

A suitable reply will be dependant on where you enter France. Could be anywhere from Roscoff to Dunkirk

Just set the sat nav and use the toll roads if you really want the quickest. Just be aware of how much it will cost (y)

Indeed, and the sat nav will, if it’s a decent one at any rate, take cognisance of traffic on the day.Consequently, a pre-defined route won’t necessarily be the fastset.

I generally navigate using Google maps on my phone or tablet. and select either with or with out tolls.. If time is important use the fastest route with tolls ..

or

Here are toll free and minimum toll roads to the Med.

Don’t forget the A75 is toll free apart from the bridge itself. You could avoid the toll by going through Millau there’s an aire in the town

I would say a flight to Carcassone on Ryanair and then a car hire job.

About 6 hours if you are lucky.

As per other replies, set satnav for Millau, did it last year with no tolls (loved it) would recommend a night or 2 in Millau crackin little town and cheap if you have an ACSI card, you only need to get to Clermont Ferrand P&R, then toll free to the bridge.

It's a good point. I do wonder why people ask these kind of questions. If you are tech savvy enough for MHF then you would be able to use google maps. It's far more informative and reliable than some randos on here! ;)

Having driven over millau viaduct, we decided to drive under it.

There is a public weighbridge en-route to it too.

Last March it cost me £20 to cross the Millau bridge. Just sayin'.

The Westernmost route towards Bibao should be least problematic.

If you decide on the A75 route be aware if the weather is bad i.e. snow / ice, the section after the high plateau towards Lodeve can be quite frightening.

We’re heading down in February and will generally take the non-toll route Bordeaux/Border/Burgos/Salamanca, or if the weather is bad incorporate the A63 into the route - and if it’s too bad for the toll road, then just wait up somewhere on the coast until it improves.

Until 1st November 2024 there is no legal requirement for 3PMSF tyres or chains/socks - M+S tyres on their own will comply.

Avoid millau then as the A75 goes quite high and likely to get snow, western route would be better bet but of course it all depends on the weather on the days you travel.

If you are going that way simply to go over the bridge I wouldn't waste money as you don't see anything at all. It's much better to see it from a distance by going via Millau town itself. We tend to go down the Western sid if France then across to the Eastern side of Spain then have a choice of which way to return depending on where we end up and/or the weather.

As to over or under the Millau bridge.....

If you haven't been to its visitor centre southbound then that is recommended.

That apart, I recommend going under. From the A75 exit northbound and rejoining point took me 26 minutes under. Staying on the A75 over the bridge takes half that time. So driving for 13 more minutes saves me €33.80 as a Class 3. Little in it on fuel as I had no throttle on the long descent and coming back up out was much shorter and quicker. 40mph in 4th most of the way down; 40mph in 5th coming back up. I think they have overpriced the toll as all the traffic in front of us peeled off to go through Millau, too.
