Using the myLPG app to find local suppliers, a lot of garages state that the filling of bottles/cylinders is not permitted. Is this referring to Calor or other similar type bottles/cylinders or will it include my 11kg Alugas bottle which has a filling point in the skirt?

Yes just referring to calor and similar 👍
Not entirely true.. Many garage filling stations will not fill directly any type of bottle, including safefill/gaslow-direct fill etc as they will not take the risk of their staff failing to identify a non refillable bottle. Tebay services on the M6 in Cumbria for example. But you normally will be okay with an external fill point. Even Tebay are happy with an external fill point.

I'd just go to the nearest and try it.
Yes, this too is problematic. We pass the BP garages on the A64 between York and Leeds in both directions. Both used to have LPG pumps. On one occasion, we stopped to use the west bound pump but it was out of order. Then we noticed that first the west bound garage stopped displaying the LPG sign and then the same with the eastbound garage. Yet the myLPG app shows both as having operative LPG pumps and even gives dates in October 2023 confirming the supply.

Of course we can telephone the garage in advance to confirm either way but that somewhat defeats the purpose of apps like myLPG.

The last time we filled up near home, we tried a garage on the A59 listed as having a working pump only to find it had been removed and Asda which had sold out. In the end, we drove 48 miles return to Autogas 2000 (Basildog ) where we filled up.

As I understand it, you cannot legally refill a cylinder that you do not own. Hence the refillables you purchase the cylinder then take them to a retailer and refill them.

Calor is the main supplier of LPG in the UK and they keep a tight leash on the retailers they supply with threats of cutting off their supply.

I think a bigger concern is that they don't have an 80% fill cut off and aren't designed for diy filling.

I think we've filled at the westbound A64 garage before they weren't bothered then about us doing it and our filler is inside the locker. There's a garage that advertises LPG next to the caravan/motorhome dealers on the A64 eastbound between Malton and York but I've never filled there.

My understanding is that the apps are only as good as individuals reporting accurate info. The garages don’t usually make any input.
