Quick note on this new forum area

Originally I created a social group for off-road camping, and it took off quite well. Unfortunately it turns out that it should never have been approved, as Jim wants social groups only to be for non-motorhome related stuff. He's made us this new area and kindly put the old social group back temporarily so that I can copy the info out of it, which I'll be doing over the next few days.

That's our blog - slightly more complete version of the posts we make to the travel threads in MHF - i.e. it covers trip to see family and weekends away.

The 4x4 Social group (which was on MHF) is now read only and the right place to be is here.

So it is not any off-road, it is for 4 x 4.

Perhaps that should be in this thread title, maybe get Jim to change it.

Urrr sounds like my answer was confusing. Jane at this (and its predecessor) so maybe she should tell you her goals but for me it’s both: the point is that there are a few things 4x4 camping trips need (specific insurance, diff-locks, beards, etc) that won’t be interesting to 2WD owners - so have a specific group.

There are other things that are more interesting to 4x4 (off road camping sites, meet ups, recovery kit?) and will hopefully get discussed here but will be interesting to everyone.

So I think the name is OK but there is not a membership requirement.

Not sure I get it? The thread title is “Quick note on this new forum area” and the area itself is called “4 by 4” not “off-road.” I’d have preferred “4x4 camping” which was what I called the social group.
