My current (temporary) solar setup is a 100 W solar panel, a Votronic Solar Controller MPP 430 Duo and a 120 Ah Li battery. The Votronic controller can handle up to 430 W of solar panels with a maximum Voc of 50 V so I’m looking to upgrade my solar panels to make the most of the controller.

An obvious choice would seem to be two Victron BlueSolar Monocrystalline panels each providing a maximum of 215 W with a Voc of 46 V. However I’m a bit confused as some of these BlueSolar panels are described as 12 V, such as 175W-12V Mono , whilst the 215W panel I’m interested in is described as 215W-24V Mono. What is the significance of the “12V” and “24V”? It sounds like one is for a 12V system and the other is for a 24V system but I would have thought that any panel with a Voc of less than 50 V can be handled by the Votronic controller and used to charge my 12V system.

Am I missing something?

A 12v volt panel is for use on a 12v circuit the actual panel voltage depending on construction/manufacturer is 20v to 24v open circuit.

Thanks. Just so I'm clear, I can't use the Blue Solar 215-24V solar panels to charge a 12 V system with my Votronic controller (or any controller for that matter)?
