Go via St. Lary Soulan and through the Tunnel

Tunnel Opening Conditions at the foot of this page

I did the D173 Bielsa tunnel in September, quite a climb up from France but an easy and pictureque decent to Ainsa.
I wouldn't like to do it in December though.

Just head south to Bordeuax go around Bordeaux and head for Irun, crossing the border there is easy and convenient for Portugal.

We think that is one of the best crossings.

Really don't like the Somport tunnel the French side of the tunnel is horrible with loads of HGV's who love drive up your arse and flash and honk you when you keep to speed limits in the villages.
