Its very strange on the Peugeot Boxer and Citroen Relay, you can only order 160bhp on the L3 5.99 metre van, on the L4 6.36 metre one 130bhp is the most powerful.

Surely that's the wrong way around?

Is 130bhp enough grunt on a 6.36 metre 4 tonne van?

I did want the blue technology if possible SCR as opposed to Fiat EGR as I know Fiat 150bhp would be ideal.

130 is plenty really, our l4h2 ducato only has the 120 lump (and that's done 210,000 miles) although I am trialling a tuning box. It will happily pull my race car on its trailer (total outfit mass of around 5000kgs) at 60 mph as long as you don't show it a hill. Not saying more grunt isn't a good thing but 130cup and 350Nm of torque is enough.

D.

130 is more than enough unless you really want to put the hammer down from the lights. 90% of the white man vans are around the 130 mark brand dependant.

Thanks Dave, is that the torque of the 130bhp Peugeot boxer then 350Nm? Sounds encouraging.

Not familiar with L3 and L4 but my peugeot boxer based autosleeper is 6.36 and has the 150 engine, current models are 160. 150 is certainly plenty. My last van was a fiat with 130 in a much bigger Rapido coachbuilt, in that I would say that 130 was adequate but not exciting.

My son has a Dethleffs low profile with allegedly 130 Fiat Ducato base. He toes my grandson’s grass track car with it with heavy tools in the garage and I am very surprised how rapid it is. (I have a 190hp Hymer A class so I can compare). I do sometimes wonder if it is incorrectly badged.:)

My camper has 120 BHP. But my bike has 180

《Confused》

Didn't know that I thought the outputs were 130, 150 and 180bhp for the Fiat?

We had a 130hp 3650kg Autotrail, we now have a 150hp 3500kg PVC.

I think the 130hp is a better engine. It appeared to just drag the van up the hills. 2000rpm and it would go almost anywhere.

The 150hp always seems to want to change down a gear. It sounds rough if u don't.

Also the gearing is higher with the 150hp so sometimes I am driving faster than I want just to stay in top gear.

If the road is a bit twisty/hilly I just leave it in fifth to keep from constantly stirring the gear box.

The 130hp engine is a real workhorse, excellent performance and economy.

So we've got a 2016 Euro 5 Ducato X290 6.36m PVC withe 130hp engine and comfortmatic gearbox. We travel at close to 3,500kg.

Previously, we'd had a Euro 4 Ducato X250 coachbuilt with the same output, but manual gearbox, that we owned for 5 years from new and covered 30,000 miles in. Always very satisfied with the power and performance.

Likewise, with the PVC, perfectly satisfied with how it goes. I noticed when we got it for the first 1,000 miles, it had to work a bit hard going up hills fully loaded. But now with 7,500 miles on the clock the engine is starting to loosen up and is running well. Very impressed with its high speed cruising - can run all day at between 70mph - 75mph on the autoroute (measured by the sat-nav). And feels as though it's still got more to give - but that's fast enough for us.

Trip this summer to Austria, went over the country's highest pass - Grossglockner High Alpine Road - which was great fun, and without any drama... apart from the scenery! :)

So yes, in my opinion, the 6.36 PVC with 130hp is fine. (y)

A 130 should have plenty of power for a PVC. Fiat said they are changing over to the blue SCR technology by the end of the year.

Is that definite Lenny about Fiat going to SCR? do you have any links to confirm etc. I can find anything online to support this.

If so, which I hope so, then I will hold off ordering the base vehicle as I would prefer the SCR technology.

I ask because when I have enquired about ordering a Fiat one of the major van dealers said they knew nothing about Fiat changing over to SCR Blue technology and if they were doing this then don't you/I think they would have been informed about it.

Following reading things on websites in the past I understand Fiat already have engines using the SCR Blue technology used in things like school buses in other countries. Our Euro 6 van has the filler cap blanked off. Like Lenny I’ve read about Fiat going over to SCR Blue technology later this year but never saved a link at the time but will come back if I find it.

Thanks guys, nothing concrete though, just need to wait and see, hopefully they will change to SCR. The article goes onto say all our vehicles meet euro 6 without the need for adblue.

Need to hold off ordering a bit longer I think.

No,treat dealers like mushrooms.

We have a 6.4 mtr PVC, its always fully weighed up with kit. 130 is plenty, its more about torque with diesels. In fact it fly,s along.
Change gear properly and no problems.
Phil

we have an Autosleepers Kingham, its slower than the T5, but still plenty fast enough

We had the 130bhp engine in our previous PVC, a 6m Autocruise Accent, and now have the 150bhp in our 6.36m Globecar FamilyScout L, both are good engines but hubby does like the little bit of extra 'oomph' he gets with the 150bhp but I'm sure that the 130bhp would have been more than sufficient.
