Packing the house up into container storage unit for a year. Container is newish and housed in a huge former brick factory, but when we went to see it there was quite a lot of condensation.
Any hints to keep everything in good condition? Thinking of vacuum bags for clothes, bedding etc. Bowls of salt to absorb the damp. Any other ideas?

Try one of the storage companies like easy store rather than a container they usually have large units which would be dry and maybe they would give you some discount for long storage , I would still use vacuum bags etc.

When we stored ours for a few months we used a house removal company, they packed the stuff into wooden crates which went into their storage building. Everything came out okay.

We’ve got two options locally. A removal company which I think will be really expensive or the container unit.

The other advantage of the container is that it is secure with a padlock and 24/7 secure access to the site. Know so many people who have our stuff into storage and things have gone missing…

So just the condensation issue that is worrying me a bit

We are in rural France so not many options.

This is a storage company, just that they use individual containers for the storage units. They aren’t outside, but housed in a huge empty factory. We went a couple of weeks ago as the weather was turning so hoping that the condensation won’t normally be so bad 🤞

Actually felt our local town was getting quite 21st century when we saw they had got a storage company started!!

We had to store for a couple of months and used a container but it was double insulated and air vents on the side

Ah that’s interesting. This has got air vents but I think might be single skin. Will check, thanks

Oops didn't see your location (y)

Anything that attracts moisture is good, cardboard...cloth...silica...them cheap moisture collectors, just sacrificial stuff
In a single skin container it's almost raining with condensation, been there done that, bags of rock salt/water softener salt.....anything you can 👍

Oh dear but better to know and plan accordingly. Thanks 👍

Single skin containers are terrible for condensation - a big cold metal box for water to condense on when it's cooler every night. I wouldn't store anything precious in one, forget relying on dehumidifers or moisture absorbants.

Insulated containers, usually ex-fridge containers, are much better. Self-store unit better still - more expensive but what's the point in paying for storage if your stuff gets wrecked?
