Unless I’m being incredibly thick, it seems that local councils in the central west area (e.g. Glasgow - need to be a resident & it’s something to do with recycling, Renfrewshire - none advertised ) no longer offer such a service.

I’ve done a little Googling, but none of the results look entirely convincing.

Anyone with recent/local experience to recommend?

thnx,
Heeb

Google feed merchants, quarries, Sand and gravel, scrap yards etc near to you.

Maybe not close enough but Lowmac alloys in Irvine or Hillhouse Quarry just outside Troon, I've used both. Hillhouse was free if you didn't need a printed certificate, Lowmac was £5. There's also Loanhead Quarry near Beith. I haven't used it but know someone who did. But as others have said, phone round scrap dealers or quarries

I'm not in Scotland, I'm in South Wales but had the same problem and found that my local Biffa waste transfer station would weigh my motorhome (for free).
Maybe worth googling to see if there is one in your area ?
