Private, Personalised, Cherished Number plate.....yes or No.

I am not keen on them. I actually said I would never have one.

But! My wife surprised me with one recently for my replacement car.

It’s my dads original 50,s plate letters ( long before they became cherished or private). Coupled with my initial and my age when he died, 8.

What could I say ..?
Thank you, what a thoughtful loving wife could be one response, that’s what I’d say but we are all different.

Any one with an American RV want
K1 ARV make me an offer (on retension)

This number plate has been owned by a motorbike racer for many, many years. His name is Steve Parrish, not Stan Penny.

My rule of thumb with ‘vanity plates’ as my dad calls them are as follows;

If you have to use mid-spaced letters, weird fonts, or black number plate bolts to make up extra letters it’s crap. Even worse if you have to put an explanation of what it says in tiny font at the bottom of the plate.

I know of some absolute crackers though, particularly an old colleague called Neil Batt who had the number plate N8 ATT on his car. Another friend had A10 ANM on a mk 1 Golf GTi. He was called Aidan

McAuley.

Ultimately its your own money so spend it how you want. As long as you are having fun!

Xx
Actually it's PEN 15 not PEN 1 S

Was thinking the same, perfect for a Kia toad, especially if you have an RV plate for the Motorhome too.

Just bought a plate that has both of our initials on. Good job I don't have a middle name. Just got to sort the insurance and get some plates before swapping over.

I doubt it was a tatty car or caravan....
In 2009 the plate HRH 1 sold at auction for £113,000 Inc tax and fees.
It will be worth considerably more 10 years on.

It was originally issued to a Hull driver in 1946.
I bet his kids wish they still had it.
I thought that was the Queens, maybe it`s 1 HRH

My mate used to be a traffic police driver and he drove a BMW with the registration AB 1 and another BMW with the registration AAB1 both registration were sold to help with police funding not without controversy
this was reported by the BBC some years later.
Regtransfers.co.uk, the UK’s largest private number plates dealer has answered questions from the BBC about the controversial sale of a valuable police asset.

In early August 2017, West Mercia Police and John Campion, West Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner, sold the vehicle registration number AB 1, to former Chief Constable Paul West.

AB 1, previously owned by West Mercia Police and displayed on chief constables’ cars for some years, was retired from use in 2011 due to “safety concerns”. 2011 was when Paul West retired, and he was the last chief constable to display AB 1 on his car.

Mr Campion said that, as there was no prospect of the number being used again, he decided to sell it to raise money “towards policing our communities and keeping people safe.”

AB 1 was entered into an auction at auctioneers Brightwells but was withdrawn before the sale took place and sold privately to Mr West.

During an interview with BBC Hereford and Worcester, Regtransfers.co.uk’s marketing manager, Angela Banh, expressed surprise at the withdrawal of AB 1 from auction and at the £160,000 sum reportedly paid by Mr West.

Ms Banh said, “It is really one of the top registrations in the country. If we were to value it we would probably put a valuation of somewhere around the £175,000 mark. But if it went for [auction] sale, once it was made available, then we would see it probably fetching a lot more than that. You could be looking at half a million pounds or more. It really does depend. Really, the only way to find out its true value is to go to auction. We think it would have gone for more and we were surprised that it didn’t go to auction.”

When interviewed on the same radio breakfast show, Mr West would neither confirm nor deny the price. The Police and Crime Commissioner, declined to participate in the conversation.

Breakfast presenter Elliott Webb said, “It does seem that they’ve completely chucked this away for very little money.” [1]

A BBC source told Regtransfers.co.uk that the Corporation had been told “officially” that the sum paid by Mr West was £160,000. [2]

The Policeprofessional.com website stated, “Mr West says he would have been prepared to pay more than the guide price quoted by regplates.com of up to £275,000[…]” [3]

For context, earlier sales of similar registrations achieved the following prices:

  • GB 1 sold for £325,000 (2009)
  • GN 1 sold for £260,146 (2016)
  • GS 1 sold for £258,775 (2005)
Which raises the question, if AB 1 could have made up to £500,000 at auction, and if Mr West would have paid £275,000 or more to acquire it, why was the number withdrawn from auction and, reportedly, sold to Mr West for just £160,000?

The media and the local community have been seeking answers to this and other questions. At the time of writing, answers had not been forthcoming from the Police and Crime Commissioner and the auctioneer.

I believe the queen is the only person legally allowed to use a vehicle on the UK highway without a registration plate. I doubt 1 HRH is her plate.

So did I til I researched it.
Actually, the Queens official limo doesn't have a reg number but every other royal car, be it the Queens runabout car or an estates land rover does.

I once passed The Duke of Edinburgh, he was driving a pale yellow two door RR reg No 2 HRH, twas a long time ago & now that plate is on a SEAT Ibiza!!!

a few interesting plates here

Not a personalised number but... WTB 60H .... was always known as What The Bloddy Hell! (Apologies for any offence.)

I have 234 DW on my car, might swap it to the MH at some point inn the future. My neighbor has a handful of them, one of them has a single number and 3 digits, unfortunately the last digit is x so not that valuable.

One advantage of a personalised plate on the motorhome is that I don't have to keep changing my 'Dart charge' registration as the number is always the same.

This generally only applies when it's safe to go to la belle France.

No. Just no.
