How do I send a pm?

Click on the avatar by their forum name, when the profile box pops up, click on the "start a conversation" link.

But if you can't find their avatar click on Inbox ... top right of your screen ... and then Start a Conversation ... Follow the boxes then.

I think part of the confusion is that we all say PM / Private message but the forum uses "start a conversation" so maybe does not stand out and look like the thing you want..
As @movan stated, top right of the screen INBOX then START A CONVERSATION.. When you start to type in a participants name you should get a selection to choose from or just type the whole name.
