Hot tubs, air fryers, houses: are we starting to regret our pandemic purchases?

Nine out of 10 Britons bought ‘treats’ to get them through lockdown – and now many are suffering from buyer’s remorse

Apparently 1 in 20 homes purchased a Hot Tub during lock down.......We are quite enjoying ours but then again we always intended getting one and our timing was bad....

This article is also about buyers remorse but this time it's a bit closer to home as it mentions campers - published two days ago:

Lots but slow learner.
The new MH we bought recently that blew up so rejected is £6k more expensive if an order was placed today.

If it keeps going on like this Bob then such cost hikes will start pricing huge swathes of potential buyers out of the market.

Also, with all of the rumours we hear about diminishing quality these days then I reckon the manufacturers will have to pick up their game quite considerably if they want folk to keep spending money on their products.

I appreciate the point about the cost of materials, supply, energy, etc, but I also appreciate the fact that most people will only tolerate a certain price-point before they say no.

2022 should be interesting for sure.

All the best,

Andrew

The currend fad for self-builds with exotic interiors to brag about on Instagram and reality TV might have changed exectations among aspiring younger MHers especially Van Life blog followers. Manufactured van conversions or coachbuilts with muted practical interiors and low-key furnishings designed to appeal to older buyers won't ignite their dreams. That's a lost market segment.

Hopefully, once people get back to their usual holiday habits, it will spell the end to Motorhome Rental businesses.
Far too many of these imposters on the road;)

I have only been looking at used motorhomes (mainly Hymers ) ,here is a couple currently on fleabay .I have not seen any sub £15000 for a long time.I don't look at new prices because it will be quite a while before I can afford a new one.

We purchased a new Adria Compact last week.
This was a 2021 model and the last one the dealer had in stock.
They expect the price of the 2022 models to be £5K more.

But if you look at completed sales, there have been quite a few sold, and lots over-priced unsold. Advertised price is often nowhere near the selling price.

The obstacle is that the higher the quality the heavier the motorhome and many 40 year olds thinking of getting into the lifestyle don't have C1 and aren't prepared to pay for it. With the best will in the world you're not getting a family motorhome weighing 3500kg.

With the weight reduction on post '97 licences all they did was create another hurdle for prospective heavier vehicle drivers.

In my view they should raise the B1 classification to 5000kg. That'll be a lot safer than having a 7m+ 3500kg motorhome with the ability to tow a 1500kg trailer... which is what they are now allowed to do.

If you look at 85% of the dealers 2022 stock ordering, they've already sold them.

Perpetual newbie
Pilote initially increased prices of their Evidence range from MY21 to MY22 by some 6% and yesterday they announced yet another increase of 4,5%, all other major brands seem to be doing the same as far as I can tell. So there are no indications of prices dropping on new MHs why - provided the normal market rules of demand and supply are working - prices on used vehicles would follow suit and increase as well. But it might be local differences, this is the Swedish situation, nothing to say it's the same elsewhere..
