I see lithium batteries can be had for about £200 for a 100amp. Looking at ecoworthy they have inbuilt bms.

Then I look at other similar batteries and they are 5 times the price for a similar amps.

Why the big difference ?

They both do the job TBH. I would imagine that there is some poorer quality in both cells, BMS and cabling! The flip side is they don’t have the ‘leisure industry’ tax on them in the same way as the 5x ones you mention.

A midway option is sensible. Fogster batteries have a deserved good reputation and reasonable price point. The ‘ivy’s’, Roger and his son, are a Fogster reseller and equally have a good rep with Funsters. They also build bespoke packs to suit your space and application.

The top price ones may have the better cylindrical cells which increases battery construction costs. Grade A matched prismatic cells are probably good enough for most of us. The really cheap ones may well not have grade A cells and they may not be matched.

A small but important part of the price difference will be quality of components, after sales back up will be another also creating and maintaining a brand name costs a lot...ask MC Donalds !

The cheaper ones are clockwork wound up by the little kids who mine the lithium

As suggested the price per ah varies dramatically, we have Super B as that is what Morelo fit as standard, they are top of the pile as far as pricing is concerned @ over £1000 per 100ah, they quote over 5000 charge cycles which is double a lot of other claims I believe but the other big difference is the maximum current draw, ours are 160ah with a maximum continuous current rating of 480 amps and peak at 800 amps, the latest 340ah offering quotes 500 amps continuous as does the 210ah, so that's double the Fogstar rating but a waste of money possibly if you don't want maximum amps. The Super B have been a great battery so far but I am not sure that I would buy them if they weren't the standard fit.

I'm not so sure that cylindrical lithium is better than prismatic........

I also think some of the Grade B cells could quite feasibly used to build a reasonable priced and decent leisure battery.

As you say who/when in a motorhome will in excess of250amp continuous be required..unless you fancy a bit of welding !

If a battery manufacturer offer me a 10 year guarantee and a personal customer service, where I can chat in my own language if I had a problem...together with great build standard, I would be happy to pay a higher price....
My requirements are quality, safety and reliability....because my Lithium supports us while off grid...to charge our components, our eBikes etc....we don't spend our money on Lithium because it's fashionable and then go to campsites hook up and tell the guy next door, we went Lithium ...it's great...it can do this and that.....actually it can, then why install an expensive off grid set up...🤔🤭

We have 304ah of lithium, but we sometimes stay on campsites ...... The lithium gives us the opportunity not to have to stay in campsites or paying for Aires, but if they're in a location we want to be in, then we happily pay. Some sites offer the option of not using their EHU and not paying for it, which quite often suits our needs, but I have to stay 200 nights on non hook up to pay for the lithium that's probably at least 6 years they way we use our motorhome ....

Did 230 off grid nights last year... Lithium gives us as much freedom to travel as we are now....
I did pay just short of 1000€ for a single 160ah to be delivered here, I just didn't have faith in the cheaper offers that were available...
I'm happy with how much I paid and the security that was offered...10 year guarantee...can anyone guarantee me 10 years...

Dear God, jumar probably saved enough money during his off grid living to have paid for his investment BUT the main thing is that he is now using the sun that you gave us to use, in a much wiser way and not depleting the other resources that you so kindly bestowed upon us. Does that make jumar a disciple or just a follower ?
My vote is jumar to become leader of the Peoples Front of Lithiuma...

As I said Morelo fit these as standard and they produce vans with no gas use, heating is diesel then everything else is electric so might have two inverters to run all cooking appliances, they will have more than one battery but not sure how the maximum amps works with sat 4 lithiums in parallel.

That is exactly what I got when I chose Offgrid Power Solutions.....

Is it worth putting cheap lithium batteries in your expensive motorhome when you read how volatile they can be in other forms, I don’t think so.

There are different types of lithium batteries, not just different manufacturers/sellers. It's important to get the correct lithium type.

For certain type of use the lifepo4 will exceed 10 year use with ease, no need for any guarantees. I have dewalt batteries for tools, some from 2013 some newer. Every year, I increased my cordless batteries as I needed.
Sure the older don't have the same capacity like the newer ones, but they still work, and the chemistry is the volatile type compared to lifepo4.
I expect at least 20 years plus from lifepo4, charged/ discharged at 0.2C or less.

I have lots of new and older lithium batteries for my tools, some cheap non branded ones, some Festool ones and they all work as well as I want. Not one has given up or exploded.
