Driving from Ypres to Luxembourg today via Mons, Namur and then heading south . Any recommendations for a pretty lunch stop on the way ?

Here you go. Picturesque, pleasant, EHU (if required), bar & restaurant onsite, and a short distance off the main route. (y)

Edited...............maybe not far enough south for you though.

Cheers,

Jock. :)

That's a shame Mark :( as it was popular with both locals and MH visitors. Good beers were on tap too.

Cheers,

Jock. :)

We stayed a few times but they were shut on that day then last time for good it seems.
Maybe someone else will open it up but obviously don’t know how busy it got to if it’s worth it?

The latest review on Searchforsites suggests that things are now fully open again?

Han-sur-Lesse fits that bill and it has a nice aire as well. Not far from Rochefort. It's quite small though.

we stopped there a month ago; it was free, no charge, as no facilities. Bar + restaurant shut, EHU turned off but they helpfully left the toilets unlocked. Site will be closed some time this month for 'works' presumed to be updating and re-opening. Hope so as it's one of our favourites.

Lovely free Aire with all services we stopped at a couple of weeks ago.

Dinant!
We did a similar journey a few weeks back - had no idea until we were driving through!
Note if coming from the North, go to the citadel first for the stunning view before descending to the river valley.
You can also if you dare squeeze the van thru the famous Rocher Bayard cutting.
It’s also the home of the inventor of the saxophone and has the Leffe visitor centre.

Hi there,

Check out Beloeil 20230527_151010.jpg, great village, listed on 'searchforsites'. Space for about 6 vans, and this amazing chateau, right in the village.

Been through the cutting many times, Have stopped overnight previously but i was there in June and only stopped for the day as there have been a lot of changes to the front and the small car park near the Casino and Prison which i have used previously did not seem viable. The car park at the other end of town which i think is recommended by S4S is in front of a block of flats and busy with cars so i used this for daytime parking and then moved on to Givet. ,( i did enquire at the tourist office about where now to park a campingcar and was referred to the campsite up the road.)

that if so a real shame as we had a lovely meal their last September

Strangely enough Al, we were there too last September, making our way home. It was a Sunday afternoon, and I went in for a couple of jars whilst Rita relaxed in the MH.
The place was busy with diners, however, see that chap stood at the bar, with his back to the camera? Well, I got chatting to him, (I kid you not), as although a French speaking Belgian, he spoke excellent English. His 3 x pals joined him, and he translated for me. We got chatting about beers, and next thing I know was a bottle of really strong beer being put in front of me by the barmaid. He had bought it for me as a gift, whilst extolling it's character, taste, and locality. It was absolutely smashing.
After reciprocating with a round, I walked out of there with a wee bit of a wobble on ;) ...........but had a great couple of hours in his/their company. (y)

I am pleased to see that it has reopened. (y)

Cheers,

Jock. :)

I had the 3 meatballs meal, bloody hell if i’d have known how big they were we’d have shared the meal. I’m pretty sure they were bulls balls or just as big if not bigger, I ate one, halved a second one and ate that just, and took 1 1/2 back to the van for next day lol.

Biggest and best meatballs i’ve ever tasted

bloody lovely 👍👍

and dam good beer as well 😉🍻
