Thinking about buying one of these privately as the two of us like the drop down bed and shorter 5.9 mt length, we've looked at dealers but I'm finding it difficult to find specification (year 2022 model). Are tanks inside or out and what capacity, battery size, solar size, B 2 B capabilities etc.

To be used for short UK trips but later EU trips of a month or so. Looking at one with added hydraulic levelling, I don't know how much this costs or how much extra weight is involved.

Wouldn't be used on hook up much so how easy is it to add lithium to Benimars van system. Also has anyone swapped the fridge for compressor type and removed or changed the microwave oven.

The one we are looking at is manual, I'd prefer auto, but whatever comes along with the best mileage and extras will override our choice.

Thanks in advance.

Switching to a compressor fridge is possible, but it's expensive and a lot of hassle (you often have to take the front seats out as the hab door isn't wide enough). If you're off grid, it also means you need to grab a lot more solar, which can be a problem in the UK when it's not summer. Fridges use a relatively small amount of gas. It's a lot of faff for a marginal gain. I'd only bother if the fridge was broken.

Yes, you're right, wait until it breaks, but from my experience gas fridges don't like hot weather and I use Safefill bottles, they're difficult to top up and all gas is expensive.

Solar is pretty useless and can't be relied on. Luckily lithium has moved on. Best thing is decent B 2 B system and a larger energy store/battery.

If you're relying on a B2B, you're going to need to drive about an hour a day just to maintain the fridge.

My tactic, get a large battery, then assume that when it's not summer, the battery will slowly deplete over several days. At which point I have a down day and spend overnight in a campsite with a hookup to charge the battery. And do the laundry at the same time.

Budget £6k for levelling system, expensive but worth it.

The van that we are interested comes with levellers, I just wondered how much payload is taken.

My B 2 B is 40amp, the lowest my 160 battery has ever dropped to was 85% so that's only a 30min drive to the beach and that's a lot of tv time included.

A compressor fridge would increase your daily consumption a hell of a lot.

Have you asked the seller if they have had any injector problems and have Ford replaced them?

It's only done 4k and still has two years ford warranty, so no worries. All the niggles on that "Ecoboom" engine have been sorted, it's only the early ones that had problems.

Hmmm. The jury is still out on that one. It is not just the early ones that had injector problems.

Fresh water tank is internal, waste (grey) water tank is external, but there is a tank heater if it is really cold, however it will soon drain the battery.

Its easy to fit second 100ah battery to Tessoros, they fit under the passenger seat, and all the wiring is in place for that. The solar panel does a good job in summer, less so in winter. They are fitted with B2B chargers so both hab and engine batteries are charged.

There a numerous report on the benimar Facebook group of injector failure even on new models. It is caused by water ingress from the windscreen dropping on the injectors. Look at the video for the solution.

Thanks for good reply, post was going off topic a little, but if it's all in place it should be easy to upgrade. Why is toilet room so high?

Does any notice cold from sleeping on the drop down if closer to the cab/screen.

Can Ford warranty be extended after three year expires.

Noooooo! Its impossible for water dropping onto the external part of the engine to cause injector tip failure deep inside the combustion chamber. It might make the injectors more difficult to remove however.

As yet we don't know whether recent changes to both the ecu and the injectors themselves have solved the problem on new models. Maybe we will have a better idea next Spring after many have sat unused over the winter.

We've got a Benimar Mileo with drop down bed. Don't notice it being cold if we have thermal screen on and heating on low, but if off grid we don't run heating at night so I have fitted curtains to separate cab area if we feel the need.
