I’m a newbie
Help! Please can anyone recommend (give advice) on how I can organise a pre inspection check on a motorhome I've fallen in love with? It's 100 miles away from where I live, so I am looking for a mobile engineer. I'm new to this too, so any tips are gratefully received. Thankyou x

If you give the area of the motorhome, that would help people to give relevant replies.

Sorry - I have paid up to join, just not been able to reply and thank everyone due to family bereavement. If I seemed rude it wasn’t intentional- it has been the last thing on my mind to log on until now, I’ll thank you for understanding.

Depending on year..Have you checked out the mot history online. All you need is the reg number.

Thankyou all for you help and suggestions. I’m looking at a different one now as the seller was a little shady when I mentioned the hab check and mechanical check!! I’m certainly learning and think I might now have a look at some dealers instead. As it’s my first time, it’s all of my savings so I want to make the right decision. I really appreciate all your help thank you and I’ll be back with more queries too!! X

Have to say I think for a first-time purchase you could well be better off with a dealer - at least if you get problems you've got some sort of chance to get it sorted. If you do your research properly you may well end up with your "perfect" van though - it's quite possible, we did over 10 years ago and still have it.

Thankyou - I think that is what I will do. How about haggling though? I wouldn't know how low to offer without being rude? Or what to expect price wise (% of asking price, what the market value would be etc.). Is there a guide to prices as there is with cars?

Don't know about haggling, but you have to decide how much you want to pay - the old adage, something is only worth what someone is prepared to pay for it. I would guess the majority of dealers will have a small margin built into the sale price; sometimes it'll be a discount, other times some extras but there are no hard and fast rules.

And I wouldn't worry about being rude, they're just as good at making stupid offers when looking at part-ex. Just have a smile on your face!
