Old memory banks seems to remember a funster on here fitted electric power steering to a 'Traffic'... might be worth a search!!

A popular conversion on old VW's is a corsa electric steering column conversion.

It's fairly complicated, I believe some have had insurance issues with the modification so I'd really recommend find a company who actually know what there doing before going ahead with it

I had electric power steering fitted to my 1991Trafic about 9 years ago.

Fitted by a guy who worked from a workshop in a garden centre near the centre of Stratford.

I believe the power unit used was from a Vauxall Nova or Corsa.

Before you do anything make sure your tyres are at least 45-50 psi - makes a big difference except when parking.

Dromecottage - if you Google electric power steering for classic cars you should find someone. The conversion just needs the steering column cutting, motor installed, rewelded and controler fitting......

The conversion is still working, my son now has the van (y)

As said double check the tyre pressure the higher the pressure the easier the steering you can find the tyre pressure on the side of the tyre don't exceed the maximum.

I know the diesel 2068cc engined Traffic very few came with power steering. I did remove from 2 left hand drive winniebago La Sharos the pump that bolts to the engine when i changed both campers from LHD to Right hand drive
I still have the pump that works off the fan belt but you would need to source a steering rack
