Travelling in Turkey - all normal for a couple of weeks, now having to drop down gears to get up similar inclines.

Full service including new fuel filter and body before I set off.

MPG reading never drops below 11.3 at any revs in any gear - average fuel consumption has increased.

Runs more or less OK on the level, but seems to have lost some acceleration.

I’ve read some posts on this talking about engine defaulting to safe mode - or EGR problem.

Disconnecting and reconnecting the battery 5 times has been suggested?

General consensus is I need to get into a garage with diagnostic kit - which I will try and do next week.

But I would be glad of any pointers, in case I need to point the garage in a sensible direction, should that be required.

Fuel filter may still suspect despite being new. Only takes a tank full of dirty fuel, or you ran it low and sucked up sludge from the tank.

Fuel filter would be a nice easy fix - will go for that first.
Wondering if the fuel consumption reading dropping to 11.3 and no further under any circumstance - whereas it would previously read under 10.0 on max acceleration - might point to something?

Crap fuel would be my starting point or possibly the fuel filter.

When you need most fuel and power you are not getting it.

You may find your EGR valve is stuck open. Unfortunately the only way to find out if it is or not is to take things apart and physically do some tests. There are no electronic sensors on it. You can try to opera it via vacuum but it is not as clear that way.

That is what happened to my 08-09 Ducato 130

Once it's fixed you could consider a remap. Local company did mine for £180, it's now nearer 160hp with better torque. Driving it is like night and day. Hills that got me changing down now go up in top!

The early Ducato x250 had an issue with the throttle body actuator failing. The butterfly should fully open (with a diesel, power is controlled from how much fuel is injected). If it's not fully opening, you won't get maximum air flow into the engine. My previous 2007 had the issue, lots of smoke and lack of power, but it would idle fine.

The throttle body is also the point the recirculated gases from the EGR system get injected back into the intake air stream.
