Saw this today after rainfall on-site. I’m no expert but I do know water and electricity is usually a bad mix?

What’s the issue , you aren’t mixing electricity and water unless the cable is broken into

No real difference to bring out in heavy rain , they have to be waterproof

Water resistant yes, submersible no.

IP44 Rating
Each digit is individually ranked from 0 to 6 (solid protection) and 0-9 (liquid protection), with 0 being no protection. An IP44 rating means that your product will be protected from solid particles that are over 1mm in size and from low velocity sprays of water from every direction.

Is cable only rated IP44

The insulation/sheath material of most cables is PVC (Polyvinyl chloride). While PVC does not do well in high-abrasion applications, it is impervious, which contributes to a high IP rating (up to IP69K). The IP69K rating means a piece of equipment can withstand intensive cleaning with high-pressure, high-temperature jets.

Quick check of internet and it appears most hook up cables sold complete are IP44 Rated. Like I say I’m no expert but I wouldn’t want my hook up cable submerged in water. Maybe I’m over cautious…,,

That rating includes the connectors. The cable itself is impervious unless it is physically damaged. There is normally no issue with cables lying in the wet.

The weakness in the ‘cable’ is the connectors on each end; it is those that are IP44 rated - the cable is impervious.

As I said in my earlier response, unless there are connectors in your puddle what’s the problem?

It's the terminals that are IP44 the cable will be much higher
