not long enough
Saw on the news tonight that the travelling poppy display (a la Tower of London) will be at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park from the end of this month

Thought we would go, then thought why not see if they would allow a group of us to stop over for a few nights, so I have asked them

1. do they have a height restriction
2. do they allow overnight parking
3. presuming yes to above would they let a group stop over, presuming they could give us access to water and toilet disposal options
4.if yes to 3 might they be able to organise a talk / tour / breakfast or combination

they allow dogs in most outside areas, with obvious rules, pick up / leads etc

if they come back with a 'yes you can reply' how many might be interested in a weekend in September? probably 18th / 19th

htttp://www.ysp.co.uk

They charge £8 to park a car for the day, but the park is free admission, I would expect them to ask for about £10 / night

David we would be interested :) we didn't manage to see them in London so would be lovely to see them and combine it with a meet

16th as in the thread title, or 18/19?

fingers too fat for keyboard, I meant to title it Sept 15 as in this year, put 16 by mistake, now corrected

This year 18th / 19th September :)

Still presuming they say yes

ah that's good
we may well be back in the area at the time (we're about 10 miles away at the mo) so great if they say yes

Apparently it is the 'wave' section that will be on display.

There's no height restriction. They direct vans to the car park by the education centre. If they say yes it is good for many a van

We stayed at the penistone. C&CC certified site when we visited the park. Very good option if the park says no.

I think most of the poppies were sold off, this section still looks impressive, even if a lot less poppies, they showed it on our local news last night :)

Oh well, seemed like a good idea, just had an email back

'due to potential security issues the site is locked up at 18:00 and they therefore can not allow overnight parking'

I reality you can walk in to the site from the lower car park on open footpaths, so not really sure about the reply, other than they don't want the hassle

I will definitely be going to see the poppies though, even the smaller amount will be effective I reckon

Will look to arrange a get together somewhere else just need another excuse, although as Jim suggested to me, make it near a pub and you don't need an excuse (y):)

Sounds good to us David :)......are you making a list?

Thanks for that, too far to walk, not sure if there is an easy bus option in that area, we have an 8m MH and prefer to park and walk or use other transport when away

I will see if a local pub has scope, but think it more likely this will not happen as a meet and I will do something else to get a few together (y)
