Hi I am looking to do an 80 day break this December January February, it will be my first solo trip. I have 2 elderly staffies who sleep most of the day. I’m having trouble finding an all year campsite, dog friendly without the harsh restrictions of no staffies allowed.
Have any of you got any suggestions on any sites in Spain/Portugal

Can I ask why you want a campsite? There are many free Aires in Spain and Portugal if you don't mind not being on the coast. The park4night app is my favourite.

Totally agree... Municipal Aires have no camping restrictions, however I've never seen restrictions on dogs..
Private Aires may have their own rules...on dogs and human behaviour..

Thank you, but I am quite new to the camping van game and as I will be on my own I’m a bit dubious about Aires, something I will have to get used to I suppose.

If you have/get the park4night app, read the reviews, people will say they felt safe or not.

We stayed a number of weeks at Loja in Spain, always busy and also English speaking nationalities there. It's a short walk into town with many shops and supermarkets. There's off-road walks in the hills at your front door

There isn't electric hook-up so get your solar panels clean.

Well you do have 2 Staffies with you for security.

Use reasonably populated Aires to start and you will soon become a regular user.

60 nights on this trip all on Aires Spain and France not felt threatened at all
We are sat tonight at Daon a little village north of Angers. All alone on this aire in the centre of the village. Beautiful and free

I can understand you concerns about overnighting outside of campsites.. however many Aires are very close to being classed as campsites themselves...we managed to survive more than 200 nights on Spanish Aires last year....campsites are rarely used by us...

Everyone is different, when I go away I like to park up for a week or two, sometimes three and put my feet up, can't do that on many Aires. I stayed at Camping Albufeira in Feb/March this year, 14€ a night with electric, 9€ without, plenty of dogs around although I didn't specifically see staffies. There was a local pit bull that liked to play with my Ridgeback pup, but wasn't staying on the site.

Yes many Aires are very pleasant and will be used by many others so safety in numbers. Just be aware not all Aires are camping Aires. Aires just mean parking. Motorway Aires are not good (safe) for overnight camping.

In France you need to look for 'Aire du camping car' and in Spain 'area de servicios para autocaravanas'.

Find them in Google maps or apps like park4night and searchforsites.

This might be a useful read for you

As an example here's one in Spain...

Hi there! An 80-day solo trip sounds amazing! For dog-friendly campsites in Spain and Portugal without harsh breed restrictions, you might want to check out Orbitur campsites in Portugal and Camping El Escorial in Spain. Both are known for being pet-friendly. I’ve also heard good things about Camping Cabo de Gata in Spain. They usually have fewer restrictions and good facilities.

If you are spending more than 4 nights at an orbitur site, then join up at the first site and the discount will pay for itself.

We recently stayed on 3 Orbitur sites, some are better than others, all are bit 'tired', but are kept very clean.
But they could do to spend a bit more money on the site facilities and we found the staff very helpful and friendly, but slightly lacking in know
