Since july 2009 And Still Going Strong
Thinking we’ll either stay at Beja or Serpa shortly but the website for the Serpa municipal Aire seems dead, reviews up to 25 December 2022.
Anyone been this year? Is it still open? Otherwise we’ll head to Beja

What a coincidence! We’re currently on the Aire at Evora - interesting town reasonable site- and we’re planning the Serpa municipal camp site tomorrow. I guess it’s the same place.
We’ll let you know.

that’ll be great thanks.

We’ll likely have a night or two in Evora, is it the municipal site you stayed on?

No. As far as I can see in Evora there are two Aires and a campsite. We are on the Aire nearest the town centre. It’s about a 25 minute walk, the last bit uphill. It’s an interesting town with lots to see and as the sun came out yesterday so did the locals. The cafes on the square were doing good business on the outside tables, a lovely atmosphere.
The Aire itself is a car park shared with cars. Motorhome spaces are marked out. We arrived early pm to find just a few spaces left. By evening it was full and some vans had over spilled into car spaces. There is fresh water, drive over drain and toilet dump. It’s all a bit scruffy but very friendly ( maybe that was the sunshine). Last night was very quiet in terms of road noise, some distant dog barking.
We’d happily stay here again.

Evora is beautiful. We stayed on the Municipal Aire and it was OK, but busy at times. The walled city is interesting but a bit touristy.

We found a very good restaurant that we would recommend outside the walled city and about 10 minutes walk from the Aire, called O Parque dos Lettoes. Not very picturesque from the outside, but very smart inside. It specialises in pork, we both had the black pork stew and it was really good. The suckling pig looked good too, so we will try that when we go again. It is not cheap, but is very good value for the quality of the food. No good for vegetarians and Vegans though!

Serpa is much smaller and quieter, and not very touristy. But that has kept it more friendly and "Portuguese". We stayed on the Municipal campsite which is a bit scruffy but cheap at about €10 per night, looks like it is €12.50 now. I don't think it has an Aire. It is close to the area of Portugal that mines marble and the site toilets are well worth a look at. As you walk into town from the site look for the bar at the beginning of R. de Sao Pedro with plastic tables and chairs. Nice place to sit in the sun and people watch and the drinks are cheap. When we were there the glasses of wine and beer were €1 each, so one for PhilandMena

Thanks for that Peter, its been quite a few years now since we done Portugal and we both remember with some great fondness some of the fantastic stopovers of which quite a few have now disappeared. Its also been a while since we got wine at €1.00 a glass and I think those days are well and truly gone now. Safe Travels.

Beja campsite right in the middle
Less than €10 with electric

Yes it is. We’re on the municipal campsite, as suggested about €12.50 a night and only half a dozen units here. It looks a little dated but clean and will suit us for a few days.
Time for lunch then a wander into town.
Enjoy your trip.
Info only last week we had a day out from Ayamonte upto Pomarao onto Mertola and back down . Pomarao interesting some vans parked next to river no restrictions as far as i could see. same at mertola below castle next to river.
