We are going to try something new to us. Trying to find out if its possible to go to portugal by coach . Has anyone done it. if so was it good , or bad . And who did you use. We want to go for about 3 weeks. in September to October We do not mind where about in Portugal we get to at first. we can travel to where we want to get to [the Algarve ] afterwards . Thanks for any help

We have been on overseas coach and train holidays, or what you are after I know, but we much prefer train. We didn’t find coaches that comfortable to be honest. We used Taylor Made Rail for the rail holiday, found them very efficient.

This is something I have been looking at as we did a few Wallace Arnold European trips way back and really enjoyed them but not since we started with the vans.
I presume you have seen this app but if not it will get you anywhere.

Intrigued by this so had a quick look at the Flix website. Around £200 and 45 hours from Cardiff to Lisbon. That's about twice the cost and ten times as long as a cheap flight?
You are right But i do not want to fly. i love to travel by road.

Indeed Mike, look at FLIXBUS for basic travel, (Ryanair style) or Ledger/Shearing group for full on tours. Both cover all of Europe 👍 The Ledger “Luxuria” coaches are really something else, akin to business class👌🏻

I’m actually starting driving on a Flixbus contract this week on a new daily service from Norwich to London, ( picked the coach up only yesterday!) and also did a ‘Ledger’ course last month, so now a backup tour driver for them too!

Who knows, you might be unlucky enough to get me as your driver…🤦‍♂️🤣😘

My new ride…….😎

Just my view on coach travel.
Yes. It is not cheap compared to Ryanair, but if you compare it to motorhomeing it's probably not as dear when you add up ferry and diesel .
Time wise you don't have to do it all at once , if you split it up into sections, the Portugal one for example takes you to Paris first so you could have a couple of days there , then it goes to bordoux you could likewise have a few days there.
The going is great ,an adventure. you get to see the countryside and towns on the way, something new everyday with no worries about filling and emptying and stuff.
BUT the coming home is very boring, you have been there , done that, and you are sitting there for hours just wanting to get home, no, if I did it I would definitely fly home, as I say just my view and I hope you keep us informed of what you decide.

Hi.
If this is any use ( Keyboard error )
A lot of the Portuguese lads come back from Paris during their summer holidays on coaches. If interested, give me a couple of days and i can nip across to an old neighbour where we lived before and get chapter and verse from him.
Jennifer has done UK-Germany and back on a coach, when i saw her off, passengers were getting on with pillows and sleeping bags....................oooooeeeeer Mrs.
PM ? me.If needed.

Breaking the journey with stop-overs for a night or two to explore places en route, choosing day-time journeys only and, with careful planning, it should possible to plan a circular route to visit different stopovers on the return journey….. may well make for a better trip.

Think I would prefer a cruise, unpack once and be waited on with no food preparation etc.

Sounds interesting, certainly a different way of doing things.

Can't argue with that but maybe the op doesn't do ships, and he also wants to go to Portugal so a cruise wouldn't do for that either but the round about route would be a good idea.

My other half is not a sailor
She likes to travel by plane. So as I have had her travel by boat for last few years. We are going to Lanzerote by plane next week .for a month. But we want to go to Portugal for a few weeks later in the year. So we chose to try a coach trip. We might as said, go by coach and come back on a plane Did not think of that. I again thank all of you for your help please let me know if can think of anything else.
