Hi just had my crossing cancelled 20th Feb Brittany ferries say due to fleet consolidation.
Can't get out with dog cabin or kennel now. Have to drive through France re arrange everything. Anyone in the same boat. Yup

BRITTANY ferries have just informed us that our ferry Portsmouth to Santander is cancelled on the 20th February 2023 due to refugee being brought into Uk from Spain.
The Galicia has been moved to the Cherbourg crossing so it looks like a long drive for us.
We have kept the dog cabins so at least that’s good.

Happened to us 3 times in 5 years when we used to motorcycle tour. Twice going out, resulting in one trip through France, the 2nd time four days late leaving. Once returning when we had two nights to get from Cadiz to Bilbao……so we could return to Portsmouth and not Plymouth.

All three times was due to faults with Pont Aven……that was the Plymouth to Santander route.

Yes the Galicia has been moved to the Cherbourg route from the 20th February did they offer any alternative routes.

Looking forward to it. Which route are you taking into Spain 👍
Do as rout planner type in Cherbourg to san Sebastian. And put no motorways no tolls .did angers then la Rochelle the Bordeaux then coast road down to Bayonne last year

Argh !!! We are due out on the 24th Feb. I’ve just checked the site and it is still quoting for a crossing on that day but not the 20th. Wonder if they are going to one crossing a week and the other to Cherbourg?

Just called BF and the 24 Feb is still sailing. Sorry Yup looks like you were unlucky. Keeping everything crossed now.

New boat on the way .not happy with them

We originally planned to go out on the 20th but when we came to book yesterday, the website said no sailing. We were told this was because they had cancelled the sailing so they could reallocate the ship’s positions and crew.
We were also told that there was no room on return from Santander for any sailing late March for a motorhome. We’re ended up with going out on the 27th Feb and back 2nd April.
Anyone else on those sailings?

Same boat

Out of interest, I believe under normal operation both the Santander and Bilbao ships do a weekly Portsmouth - Cherbourg return crossing as part of the crew change routines.

Out of interest did BF offer full refund for the cancelled crossing out, and refund for the return from Santander, however many weeks later, if you chose not to go. Also what about compensation or offering alternative travel as I’m sure if you went via France then the overall costs would be higher and you may have campsite bookings already made and paid deposit for.

We’re sailing 🤞🏻 On 6/3 back 31/4. If they cancelled my one going out I think I would not go at all and want full refund for both crossings. If I had to travel down through France I would likely go and come back a bit later and from closer to home.

No need to go to Bordeaux. There’s a ferry across La Garonne at Royan, you can follow the coast all the way down to Biarritz.

You need to check vehicle sizes though. We did it on our motorcycles some years ago, saves a long detour inland. 👍

Might be worth seeing if you can negotiate your way on to a Portsmouth > St Malo sailing and save having to drive the whole Cherbourg peninsula. We've managed St Malo as far as Biscarosse in a day.

No chance especially with two dogs. We will just transit through France 🇫🇷 to Spain it’s not a problem. Thanks.

Friends here in Javea just got their return on the 22nd Feb from Santander cancelled. So far zero luck at rebooking.

What did BF actually offer you then Petew, them having cancelled your crossing for their own commercial reasons, to compensate you?

Brittany Ferries didn’t offer me anything In compensation! We were on the phone to them in a cafe as the need to rebook seemed urgent. Will pursue compensation later, but suspect that their t & c have them covered!!
