Morning all, Travelling next Wednesday portsmouth to cherbourg at 10pm, 2 other ferries leave that evening 8.15pm and 9.30pm, I would like to arrive at port before they sail to avoid traffic on motorway say late afternoon will I be able to do that, will they turn me away that early. Des

You probably will be better off parking at Port Solent for the afternoon and head to the ferry port in the evening. It’s only 10 minutes drive away from the ferry, free parking and there are shops/restaurants and lots of boats to ogle at.

Thanks for reply I went to Port solent last time I did trip and drove in to heavy traffic when leaving may be me who likes to arrive for every thing early, excellent place to stay on return trip.

What about going into the Park & Ride and hanging around there for a couple of hours. Straight on and off the M275. Only 3/4 mile north of the Rudmore roundabout exit. It'll cost you four quid though and Port Solent is free. It's only half a mile from the Port Solent lights to the turning for the M275 at the Marriotts. Notwithstanding the three sets of lights before you get to the M275, it's never that bad.

I thought that Portsmouth P&R was height barriered? Unless it's changed?

So it is. No overnight parking either. Portsmouth council would sooner you blocked up the roads with motorhomes it would seem. Bunch of prats
