Most streets are very narrow or stuffed with parked cars - no chance of parking in them without causing a hazard.
All vehicle parks are now pay and display - none allow parking in anything that exceeds a marked bay (for cars).
Forget going to English Heritage's Portchester Castle in anything bigger than a car - unless you are in a coach party - it's a £70 fine for parking in a coach bay, even at 16:00 on a weekend when all coach bays are empty. The local Fareham authority replaced free parking with PCN enforcement at the back end of 2021

Sorry about that. Despite local protestations and my suggestion for overnight moho bays, it all fell on deaf ears. Castle Street has always been a nightmare. Space tp park and also overnight at Port Solent. You could then walk along the shore to the castle or catch the number 3 Fareham bus and get off at the White Hart and walk down.

I have given up on the UK if it was only the UK I would sell up

Castle St car park is ideally suited for two hour visits to the castle (English Heritage) and the church within it's perimeter. However there are no places to park anything larger than a motor car. I have sent a F.O.I. request to discover if all three 'coaches only' spaces are ever simultaneously filled.

TBH, Portchester Castle in anything bigger than a pushbike is difficult. There's demand for 10 times as many spaces as can be provided. You're best off parking in the nearby suburbs and walking in.

There was one coach there yesterday when I went down to the sailing club but very few cars. Perhaps no-one wants to pay. Can only once recall ever seeing more than one coach down there. Half our congregation now have to pay to come to church. I believe EH have done a deal with FBC for a slice of the parking income. You can continue on past the Port Solent car parks about 600m and park along the sea wall. There's a roundabout at the far end outside the naval fire school where you can spin round. Sweeping vistas of the mudflats at low tide. About 600m across the lock to the bus stop on the main road.

Portsmouth and Portchester are extremely unfreindly, when you take into account the LEZ that is primed to catch innocent motorhomers going to the ferry port or iow. Should be profitable for the local ratepayers, if it gets to them that is!
