So we are at southport in the middle of this storm, are polar screens designed to handle this kind of wind, I'm hoping they are as I dare not even open the van door to get out never mind think of holding onto them once 1 end is released from the van

Think your screen could be the least of your worries.
Flying debris is more likely.
Are you on the Victoria Park site or next to the fairground?
It's still blowing a hooli just down the coast at 2.00am
Hope you got through the night unscathed.

Left the Southport CAMC yesterday having managed the Xmas lunch in the Quest with friends. However because of the winds we didn’t put it up until Christmas morning and took it down after our buffet on Boxing Day!!
Hope you survived the weather and no flying debris etc.🤞

I have been selling a long cover that has storm straps attached, Never had an issue.

I used one on my previous van in a storm. The van was filthy from several days of touring. It rubbed the A pillar paint pretty hard.

Well we survived the night but I havent ventured out yet but it looks like crocs and wet feet then move the van to a dry pitch, on the bright side the ducks are happy

The scariest was around 2 am , lightening overhead and hail stones like a machine gun on the back wall of the van

Glad everything is safe and secure - and hope no one suffered any damage to their vans where ever they are.

Live down the coast from there. Didn't hear/see any thunder or lightning as in bed earlyish- mum around the corner said the dog got really upset with it all.

I wouldn't have risked it. Not worth it for a bit of condensation and heat loss. I do have internal blinds though so no issues about privacy.

We are in Cumbria at minute, been here since Friday and it's been very windy and raining but not thunderstorms yet. I have had screen cover on whole time and it's stayed on but wind blowing from rear. Rain coming down sideways at min so be staying in today ☔😂

Personally once it gets stormy windy as opposed to a strong wind I take the cover off. Albeit I'm not concerned it's insecure wind will get around the cover edges despite the good fit and some straps, there will eventually be some slight lift. The added banging isn't desirable on top of the van itself being bumped about.

If it's going to be nasty I'll also try and point the van into the main windy direction rather than side or rear on. Even on the most rigid of sites for peg positioning they'll usually give some latitude when the weather is going to be very adverse. Worked well last summer on the very exposed Highlands End, Dorset, when over half the other campers had clearly run away.

I wanted to point the van into the wind but It got to the point I dare not open any door to pull the ehu so I could move it , we had to just sit it out , was getting quite scary at its worst
