Hello catching the ferry to Spain from Plymouth any recommendations for overnight stops near the centre of Plymouth.

I would stay just outside at Riverside campsite and then move to the P&R at Plymouth Arglye football ground and get bus. Not on match days though.

Argyle P&R, good walks into town, always a van or two parked there. Obviously not on match days!

The car park by the ferry itself, someone has mentioned it's paid for now.

Hoe road by the Citadel, road side parking paid for. Good access to the Barbican and nice views from the Hoe. Could also park on Madeira road overlooking Plymouth Sound and you could do some tug spotting!

Devils point carpark, can be busy during the day, early evening. Walk to Royal William Yard, expensive but good food and drink.

Kings road is doable, road side parking. Traffic may be an issue till late.

Elphinstone car park as above in post #3 right next to the Barbican for food and drink.

Riverside is a lovely site and food is good on the days they do it. Bus stop is about 15 mins and you could always do late check out. Probably be our first trip out this year as only an hour away.

Depending on your ferry time, we have stayed in the Long Hazel campsite at Sparkford, just off the A303 at Sparkford.
We have used it on both way in and way out.

It's about 1.45h or 80 miles to Plymouth port.

There are two pubs within walking distance (and a Maccy D's!) there is also the Haynes motor museum.
Further afield there are decent walks, and old earthen forts etc.

On the A38 Westbound, there is a dedicated park up for caravans and motorhomes.
It's in the Lee Mill area and is off the A38 as it is now on an old stretch of single carriageway.
Have a look on Google maps.
Edit.

Sorry, it's about 8 MLS. from the turn off to Plymouth.

Interesting, where is that ?
I think you are asking about the Lee Mill stop!?

Southside of A38 take exit just after the Lee Mill turn off and drive through Smithaleigh. You stop before you rejoin the A38. Well sign posted and even has overnight parking sign.

I use the PnR at Plymouth Argyle both for going to the football and for use as an overnight stop. If you look at the satellite view on google you will see a few single parking spots near the hatched area where you can get one wheel right on the white line without annoying anyone else (North part of the parking lot). Never had any trouble, even with match fans streaming past the van. The main road can be noisy at night (throughout the night) and the comings an goings that you get in any city car park throughout the late evening/early morning is not for the nervous or light sleeper, so overall I wouldn't recommend it. Bus into town is the obvious advantage however.
