We’re sailing on Monday evening to Roscoff. Is there safe parking near the ferry we could leave the van in if we want to go cycling? We plan to get to the port about four to avoid as much traffic travelling down as we can so thought was to use the bikes to explore around the Hoe area perhaps ,cycle paths? Worth doing?

You may find going to the Barbican via the Hoe better by foot. There are cycle paths but it isn't far and you'll be stopping regularly to take in the view!

There is a carpark just before the check in lanes which I believe to be safe. I haven't heard of any issues.

The port has only just reopened after redevelopment so the parking arrangements may have changed. You can also park on Hoe road and Madeira Road, these are paid parking.

If your van can fit onto a car parking space there is parking at the port but it isn't free. Otherwise, I can only suggest finding somewhere on the streets near the port. Again not free and you'll probably have to register with a parking app.

Unless someone has better local knowledge I would be inclined to shelve the idea! :)

Park up in the car park there, walking would be best it’s beautiful walk from ferry following path up to hoe and down to Barbican.
They forecast lovely weather so it will be nice early evening walk 👍

As late as possible! We turned up at 3pm hoping to park up and explore ,no luck on parking a 7.4m van anywhere interesting so ended up parked in the passport queue from about 4.30 until they opened at 8☹️

Yes. It’s a ghost town 🙂 we were second there and just sat around reading and occasionally walking the dogs ,there is a toilet you can use just behind and to the right of the booths other than that nothing 😕

The port is a bit of a dump isn’t it?

But then they all are I suppose

The area around Union Street (close to ferry) is well dodgy, I wouldn’t park there especially if it’s quiet. Plymouth Hoe area should be ok though.

The Hoe/Madeira Drive area would be my choice, paid street parking but usually spaces. Five minutes to ferry.

Good luck fitting a 7.4m A class in those slots😀(we tried!)

what i was just going to do was sit in the lanes wating to board ,,but i am unsure if there was other departures that stop you getting there early ,, ?

Usually only evening ferry to Roscoff, I think the Santander ferry goes a couple of time a week late afternoon.

We always park up at the free park and ride outside Plymouth Argyle football ground. Direct access to the park and lots of walks.
Just check not a match day.

Last time we were there you could park in the car park of the restaurant/ pub.

My 'van is 7.69m. I just used and paid for two spaces. Not too expensive if you're only going to be there for a couple of hours or so.

I guess those with 7m vans quickly get into that habit. Plymouth Hoe street parking improves the further west you go. I’d say the Barbican end is generally a no go area for MH, but time of day & year are key.

You could always catch the ferry to Cornwall, there are several great spots my side of the water 😁
