Please Be Careful doing a S.O.R.N.

Yes, so have today had to get onto the bank and cancel my card !!!!!! Still can't believe how stupid I am !!!!

You arn't stupid.. These people know how to get smart people to be duped. I have no chance and half the time don't even open things that apparently are important and legitimate.

Hope you get sorted.

I SORNed my van back in May, then had to retax it to sell it 4th July. I still haven't had my refund back despite having phoned them 5 times and on the 5th phone call being told that as I sold it withing 10 days of taxing it, the refund wasn't automatic and had to be done manually, she said it would still take another 3-4 weeks for the cheque to arrive, that was 5 weeks ago, going to phone them again today. :pinocchio: :(
Just called the DVLA for the 6th time, they reckon my cheque will be in the post within 10-14 days 😭......... watch this space!

I did this once with an ESTA site and as soon as I realised my error I emailed the company and insisted they refund me... I got my money back

Just watched 'Defenders' programme on BBC1, they cover the issue of bogus websites, amounts to millions! Be extra vigilant people.

Not a bogus website but another 'scam' of sorts ... took out a scooter insurance policy on 17 August and got 3 months of free personal accident cover, all well and good, the policy didn't come into effect until 3
September so that would take us to 2 November for the PA insurance which I was intending to cancel so we didn't have to pay after this time. What they don't tell you though is they start the PA insurance immediately when you purchase the scooter insurance so they start charging 3 months from purchase date, not inception date, so on 17 October they slammed us for £3.99! I've been reading the scooter insurance company and the PA insurance provider the riot act so hopefully we'll get it back ... I hate these hidden type of things ... it's not an illegal scam but comes very, very close in my book.

I always check when searching as usually there are four or five ads seeming to be what you want before the official Gov.UK site, just looked at Google and there are four before Gov.Uk all for sorn register or similar.
Be very careful they usually have AD in front of the site although very small.🤬

Finally got my cheque only to find they'd deducted 10% because I'd only retaxed for 6 months just to sell it. Robbing buggers!

Eh? Can you give figures please on what you paid and what you've got back/number of months.

I paid £148.50 for six months, taxed 1st July, sold 4th July, got £112.50 back for 5 months tax! If I'd bought 12 months tax I wouldn't have lost the 10% and would have got the full 11 months back. 😢😂

Interesting as I never knew they did that, mind you I always do either a full year payment of £165.00 (no surcharge) or a 12 month DD (5% surcharge) which works out at £173.25, an extra £8.25 pa/69p a month - I prefer the DD as I can easily SORN and re-tax it as required.

Last vehicle i sorned on the last day of the month they took the tax payment by DD but it came back with the refund

I don’t think any Gov website asks you for your bank details, DVLA send out giro cheques. Suggest you slow down a bit on the internet and take time to look at the site, the E-address is the give away.

All of these sites are pay per click, so have to pay google everytime someone accesses their site through google. when using Google I open all the sponsored sites before moving onto the real site, just a way of trying to rip off the rip off sites.
