After spending time in Belgium, Germany, Austria, Italy and France we will be travelling the east coastline between Barcelona and Malaga for the next 6 weeks, then 2 weeks out via Madrid to biarritz and further along french west coast.to the UK, question which places should we certainly not miss out on , on this journey, we are not interested in the likes of Benidorm , we like authentic Spain, history, beautiful buildings, quaint villages, little coves, caves, smaller beaches,
Besides the obvious, Granada , Toledo , Seville and the other more well known ones, looking forward to hear the tips and favourites of the experts, Thank you.

Not a particularly pretty place but very close to the motorway and the sea is Moncofa, between Castellon and Valencia. Totally Spanish and a free aire, it's handy. It does bull running at some point but I can't remember when.
The problem with the coast is that it is over developed. One really pretty place to stay is Calahonda near Motril. They banned motorhomes about 10 years ago but have now allowed them to stay 2 nights, right on the beach and it's free but with no facilities. All the bars here serve such huge free tapas with a drink that you will not need to buy a meal.
If you are looking at authentically Spanish then another great place to stay is El Hornillo beach camperpark in Almayate. It's about 30 mins east of Malaga but a world away from the Costa del Sol. Right on the beach with 2 great chiringuitos in a few minutes walk. Not a word of English spoken, but the vilage with restaurants, supermarket snd banks is a 10 minute walk. We've seen plenty of horses tied up outdide the bars here.
Nearer to Malaga is the aire of Malaga beach in la Cala de Moral. Again pretty authentic, with the bonus of being 9km from Malaga on the coastal path. The last 2 aires mentoned also have washing machines. Happy Travelling

We stumbled across L'Ametlla de Mar, Tarragona, Spain one year when many campsites we wanted to stay at further north were full. We did lots of clif top walking and enjoyed it so much we probably stayed a week or more at camping Nautic on the very edge of the town. We enjoyed a small restaurant on the port itself with fresh fish from the fishing fleet 😊

A little gen is the mini "Gaudi-esque" church at Novelda. Great architecture and a very 'organic' organ.....

It is a traditional Spanish village where you will find a good munu del dia also. We have had a couple of good meals there under €8 🍷

Cartagena is worth a visit...lots of Maritime history, still an active port.,..town has incredible Roman history...lots to see and do... getting there and parking up can be a challenge in a Motorhome....
