Every now and then it just switches off and won’t allow you to switch it back on. Seems only to happen after it’s been on a long time, say 3hrs plus and so far has only happened once on each trip. First time i eventually pulled in (was a great excuse for a brew) and thought it might reset once the engine was switched off, in that case it didn’t work. This week same thing and switching the engine off worked and it fired up as usual.

I can go via my MH dealer but i can already see this being a hard one to diagnose so thought it worth asking here first.

Anyone have any Scooby-doos ?

My Burstner one is powered up permanently.
You have to switch it on - and off by the buttons .

Car stereos usually have two power feeds - one permanent and one switched with the ignition. That means it probably still has some power when you switch off the engine, which could explain why doing that does not always reset things.

Like anything else these days, it's a computer and sometimes they can crash. If there is a software update for it then you could try to install that.

Our Sony head unit has had a couple of moments - once it seemed to mute everything and the other time got stuck on reversing camera view. It's actually been OK recently, but just in case I have installed a power on/off switch (actuall on/off/on - vehicle electrics/off/leisure electrics), which means you can turn it off and back on again while doing 65 on the M4 if necessary :)

cheers,

Robin

Could it be overheating?

Just when you mention that it happens after a 3 hour run.

I'm sure my double din pioneer has a fan on the back, maybe a cable loop has managed to get in a stop the fan from running.

I'd pull the unit at the very least and have a look around the back and make sure everything is neat and tidy and tight

Edit - actually, can you remove the top dash board clip thing and look down the back before removing the head unit to look

May be overheating, most of these units have a fan you can normally hear it running.

Could it be that it's overheating?

Will check the fan just to be sure although I’m pretty sure i can hear that running when were’ parked up and have the unit on but worth double checking.

Heat was the first thing Mrs R suggested and who am i to argue::bigsmile:
