I'm keeping that. It'll be handy even if I never use it.
Hello,
I have a Carthago I143 with the factory Pioneer sat nav fitted.
Does any one know what settings need to be made for the sat nav to route using the vehicle size settings ?
Mine ignores these settings and routes down single track roads when a larger road is available and it's only a fraction further along the larger road.
Even when I set the Vehicle width to 15ft wide or set the profile to Lorry, we still get single track routes.

Any help with this would be appreciated.
Thanks.

What satnav software does the unit use?

There’s something odd going on there. Once the vehicle dimensions are set it should always use them, you don’t need to switch it on.

Mine shows a screen confirming the dimensions every time I set a new route. It’s never taken me down a road I haven’t been comfortable with.

Check your other route settings - make sure you don’t have it set for shortest route or to ignore motorways or anything like that. That could explain it - if the shortest route is a single track road that you can fit down it will use it. Set it up for fastest route and don’t ignore any type of road.

What's the point in having different settings if it does crazy stuff, mine tried to send me into a no entry street yesterday.

Thanks for the replies.
@NickNic The dimensions confirmation screen also pops up and has the sizes entered.

When I press the alternative route option, just before start navigation, Easy2 some times offers a route missing narrow roads, but not always. 'Fastest' routes the same as 'Easy' down the narrow stuff.
I've tried turning on/off lots of options, none seem to help to apply the vehicle size to the route given. It's a bit frustrating.

The satnav firmware version is 9.18.28.635968 (Feb 2016) so I think I'll see if there's a more recent version to update to.

I suspect that the satnav's mapping only knows the class of road, not the width. So it's just using an assumed width small roads that doesn't take into account they are single track. For well travelled roads and for locations with specific width and height restrictions, I'd hope it's got the mapping.

Also, technically you can go down those roads, just it's much more faff. What it probably ought to do is assume your speed down those roads is so slow that it'd never put them in a planned route unless there was no other option (like access to a camp site).

That's weird. Mine occasionally does the opposite, trying to send me on a long detour to avoid a road that I'm quite happy to use.

That applies to all sat nav platforms.

Road widths are not included in the mapping unless there's a specific restriction.

They use a pretty basic method to calculate a route - it should always try and keep you on the biggest road that's a sensible option so it will avoid B roads if there is an A road available, it will choose a motorway over an A road and so on.
